Description
Data Scientist providing specialized technical support for database management and systems administration in support of the Ship Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Readiness and Effectiveness Measuring (SHAREM) program at the Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC). This technical position focuses primarily on the Naval Ship Tracking, Reporting, and Analysis Tool (NSTRAT) system, requiring expertise in system administration, software development, and database management within the FLANKSPEED IL6 AZURE cloud environment. The role combines hands-on system administration responsibilities with advanced programming capabilities to develop data analysis tools and support comprehensive exercise reconstruction and analysis activities for the REM program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
NSTRAT System Administration
- Provide system administration for the Naval Ship Tracking, Reporting, and Analysis Tool (NSTRAT) System to monitor applications and services.
- Troubleshoot technical issues affecting system availability and performance within the FLANKSPEED IL6 AZURE cloud services environment.
- Maintain and monitor system performance to ensure optimal operation of the NSTRAT platform.
- Coordinate with FLANKSPEED hosting services to submit and resolve NSTRAT system trouble tickets.
- Support system updates and maintenance activities to ensure continuous operational capability.
Software Engineering & Development
Conduct software engineering and testing to develop NSTRAT updates based on evolving DoD / DON directives, including quarterly STIG updates.Develop data analysis tools and event reconstruction capabilities using Python and other programming tools.Perform corrective maintenance and enhancements to existing software systems and applications.Script data analysis products using Python with SQL Server relational database integrationSupport software testing, validation, and deployment activities for system improvementsDatabase Management & Analysis
Perform comprehensive database entry, management, and monitoring of automated back-up systems.Execute database query analysis to support exercise reconstruction and analysis requirements.Support database access for users and distribute data to supporting and requesting commands.Maintain database integrity and ensure proper data archiving and retrieval capabilities.Monitor database performance and implement optimization strategies as required.Requirements
Experience
5+ years of Navy experience managing Navy computer networks3+ years of experience using Python and other programming tools to script data analysis productsRequired Certifications & Technical Skills :
Hold and maintain certifications and / or training to maintain FLANKSPEED IL6 AZUREScripting language such as Python with SQL Server relational databaseSecurity Plus certificationAZURE Administrator Associate AZ-104Required Competencies :
