POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES :
This position focuses on a groundbreaking area of research and development which combines 3D printing technologies with complex biological tissue assembly.
It primarily involves evolutionary development of prototypes into a production ready product. The product will allow scientists to work with and print out complex human tissue structures for their own research.
The position additionally involves development of hardware and tools which allow manipulation of the tissue structures inside a virtual 3D environment.
The ideal electrical engineer for this position will need to be skilled in many aspects of engineering. They must be highly motivated.
They must be always learning and willing to expand their horizons and are able to recognize when a different solution might be more appropriate.
They can adapt and pick up new and different technologies quickly
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Develop hardware according to functional and technical specifications or develop specifications based on current scientific research evidence.
- Wire up test fixtures and test new designs / products.
- Evaluate new technologies and components regarding reliability, performance, and safety with the goal of integrating them into new or current products.
- Complete hands-on prototyping and testing.
- Develop or integrate new features using evaluated components.
- Create clear, robust design documents.
- Participate in and contribute to the design process as a team member; clearly communicate pros and cons of different solutions to Management and other Co-workers effectively and suggest the solution that likely makes the most sense to pursue.
- Work hand in hand with software engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, doctors, and other technical experts daily.
- Propose hardware development for Biomanufacturing.
- Construct designs using both analog and digital design.
- Research potential solutions when presented with a problem.
- Complete minor mechanical assembly tasks such as screwing things together, drilling holes, and inserting heat-set-inserts into plastic (guidance will be provided).
- Travel periodically to customer locations for product installation, setup, troubleshooting, or upgrades.
- Effectively evaluate a system’s safety and functionality.
- Facilitate the time estimation needed for a project and lead it from start to finish.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
- Strong CAD background (Autodesk AutoCAD Electrical, Vault)
- Sufficiently document testing and designs using schematics, spreadsheets, and other documentation.
- Competent with the standard safety requirements and safety categories.
- Deep understanding of electrical engineering development, both in theory and practice.
- Be self-sufficient and / or collaborate with others on tasks when needed while managing multiple priorities.
- Work independently when needed and manage multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of and willingness to perform wiring tasks (for R&D and to assist with production wiring when needed).
- Effectively use multimeters and oscilloscopes.
- Familiarity and understanding of NEC code.
- Hands on prototyping new designs.
- Implement new technology in a quickly changing environment.
- Understanding of controls engineering (should have the knowledge of standard I / O functionalities and triage of equipment.
- Experience with electrical panel building to potentially train manufacturing team members / control panel builders in the future.
- Knowledge of 480 three phase and 208 split power.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent work experience.
- Strong engineering foundation and general analytical skills.
- 2-3 years of experience as an electrical engineer working on new product design.
- Experienced with circuit design and control systems design.
PREFERENCES :
- Successfully solder through-hole components and wires into through-holes or solder cups with wire gauges of 18 AWG 30 AWG.
- Experienced with PLC programming.
