Position Summary :
The Senior Hospital Billing Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation, submission, and follow-up of hospital claims to third-party payers. This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, and payer regulations and policies. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in hospital billing processes and a strong working knowledge of Cerner Soarian Financials (or Soarian Billing system).
Key Responsibilities :
Prepare, review, and submit hospital inpatient and outpatient claims using Soarian Financials and other billing systems.
Analyze claim rejections, denials, and underpayments; correct and resubmit as appropriate.
Research and resolve complex billing issues and discrepancies in collaboration with other revenue cycle departments.
Ensure compliance with payer-specific billing requirements, coding regulations, and hospital policies.
Monitor billing queues and aging reports to ensure timely claim submission and follow-up.
Assist with special projects, audits, and process improvements within the billing department.
Mentor and support junior billing staff, serving as a subject matter expert for Soarian workflows and billing procedures.
Communicate effectively with payers, patients, and internal departments to resolve outstanding balances and ensure accurate reimbursement.
Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and financial information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
Qualifications : Education :
High school diploma or GED required.
Associate degree or certification in Healthcare Administration, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
Experience :
Minimum 5 years of hospital billing experience , with at least 2 years using Cerner Soarian Financials (or related Cerner systems).
Strong understanding of hospital revenue cycle processes, including charge capture, coding, and reimbursement.
Experience with government and commercial payers, including Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care plans.
Skills :
Proficiency in Soarian Financials , Microsoft Excel, and billing / claims management systems.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding preferred.
