Job Summary :

The Manufacturing Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that products manufactured by the company meet quality standards. They develop and implement quality control plans, identify areas for process improvement, manage non-conformances, and lead root cause analysis efforts to resolve issues. This position works closely with production teams to ensure that manufacturing processes are efficient, safe, and produce high-quality products.

Key Responsibilities :

Quality Control & Inspection :

  • Develop and implement inspection procedures and quality control plans for manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of materials, products, and manufacturing processes to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Monitor key quality metrics (e.g., defect rates, yield rates, scrap rates) and take corrective actions when necessary.

Root Cause Analysis & Problem Solving :

  • Investigate and resolve quality issues, including defects and non-conformances, during production.
  • Lead or participate in root cause analysis (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, FMEA) to identify the causes of quality problems.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and track their effectiveness.
  • Process Improvement :

  • Work with production teams to optimize manufacturing processes and improve efficiency, while ensuring quality standards are maintained.
  • Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives, such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other quality improvement methodologies.
  • Recommend and implement changes to improve quality, reduce costs, and increase throughput.
  • Documentation & Compliance :

  • Ensure all manufacturing quality activities are documented accurately and in compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 9001, FDA, etc.).
  • Maintain records of quality metrics, inspection reports, and non-conformance reports.
  • Support audits and ensure compliance with internal and external quality standards and regulations.
  • Training & Support :

  • Train and support production personnel on quality standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Work closely with the production team to ensure that proper quality controls are in place and followed during manufacturing.
  • Supplier Quality Interaction :

  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure that incoming materials meet quality standards.
  • Help address and resolve quality issues with suppliers and assist in improving their quality control processes.
  • Product Development Support :

  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams during product development to ensure that manufacturability and quality requirements are met.
  • Review new product designs and ensure they are compatible with manufacturing processes and quality standards.
  • Statistical Analysis & Reporting :

  • Analyze data from manufacturing processes, identify trends, and report on quality performance.
  • Use statistical tools (e.g., Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE)) to monitor and improve process capability.
  • Skills & Qualifications :

    Education :

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related field), or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience :
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in quality engineering, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with quality management systems (QMS) and manufacturing processes.
  • Technical Skills :

  • Strong knowledge of quality tools and methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean, FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, etc.).
  • Proficiency with quality management software (e.g., SAP, Minitab, MES systems).
  • Experience with industry standards and certifications (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 13485, or others).
  • Soft Skills :

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various departments.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Certifications :
  • Certifications like Six Sigma (Green Belt, Black Belt), Lean Manufacturing, or ASQ (Certified Quality Engineer – CQE) are highly desirable.
  • Other Requirements :

  • Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment, which may involve exposure to industrial settings and occasional shift work.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Typically works in a manufacturing facility or production plant.
  • May spend time on the shop floor, interacting with production teams, or performing inspections in the field.
  • Occasional travel may be required for supplier audits or to other manufacturing facilities.
