Lifeguard Position

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA. DEPARTMENT : Parks and Recreation HOURS OF WORK : Hours Vary; Monday thru Saturday 5 : 00 AM to 9 : 00 PM LOCATION OF WORK : West Pool, 1700 Hillcrest Dr., 2909 W. 88th Ave, Dimond Pool

To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

This position as assigned : lifeguards indoor and outdoor aquatic activities; teaches swimming lessons, takes hourly chemical readings and adjusts pool chemistry as needed, cleans facility and cashiers. Incumbent must be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Other related duties as assigned.

Must possess the following valid certifications to apply :

• American Red Cross or equivalent Lifeguard Training at time of hire.
• American Red Cross or equivalent First Aid Certification at time of hire.
• American Red Cross or equivalent Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Professional Rescuers at time of hire.

Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly, it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from the date requested. The processing fee of $47.00 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of current American Red Cross First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certifications or the equivalent. All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
