Medical Assistant Position
UPMC Altoona Blair Medical Associates Endocrinology Department is looking for a full-time Medical Assistant to work Monday-Friday from 7 : 30 a.m. to 4 : 00 p.m. Responsibilities include :
- Guiding workflow and assigning tasks to other clinical staff.
- Assisting management staff with supervisory activities.
- Participating in the creation and implementation of departmental goals, processes, and procedures.
- Mentoring, orienting, and providing ongoing training to current and new staff members.
- Serving as the department super user for Epic Care.
- Working directly with the manager to identify opportunities for improvement with regards to clinical / non-clinical functions, infection control procedures, and patient assessments.
- Guiding routine meetings with staff to communicate procedural changes to improve service quality and patient safety.
- Demonstrating proficiency in all practice category specific tasks.
- Sending / receiving patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA and other state and federal regulations.
- Obtaining lab / x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
- Completing forms / requisitions as needed.
- Scheduling appointments.
- Verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics.
- Preparing and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
- Performing front office responsibilities, preparing patient rooms, setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
- Cleaning exam / procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
- Managing inventory of supplies and restocking exam / procedure rooms.
- Checking schedules and organizing patient flow.
- Accompanying patients to exam / procedure rooms and assisting patients as needed.
- Collecting patient information / history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines.
- Relaying instructions to patients / families.
- Answering calls and providing pertinent information.
- Administering injectable medication and vaccines under the direction and supervision of a physician.
- Performing phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
- Performing clinic procedures according to policy and procedure.
- Assisting physicians with procedures.
- Documenting patient information into the medical record.
- Complying with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies.
- Maintaining strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
- Complying with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN / RN / EMT) or successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA) or at least 1 year of patient care experience is required.
Must demonstrate proficiency in three practice category specific tasks. Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities.
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
