Position Summary
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in the monthly close, financial reporting, and operational accounting for a rapidly growing CPG business. This position combines traditional accounting responsibilities with hands-on exposure to inventory, cost of goods sold, retail deductions, and eCommerce channel activity. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and has experience with product-based businesses.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close & Reporting
- Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals for key balance sheet and P&L accounts (cash, inventory, prepaid, AP, AR, revenue, and COGS).
- Own month-end close deliverables to ensure accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Assist in preparation of management reports, dashboards, and variance analyses.
- Support external audits and annual financial statement preparation.
Cash & Treasury Management
Maintain daily cash activity records and reconcile all bank accounts, merchant processors, and credit card accounts.Monitor cash inflows and outflows, including customer collections, vendor disbursements, and loan activity.Prepare and update short-term cash forecasts (e.g., 13-week cash flow) to support liquidity planning.Manage timing of vendor payments to align with cash flow goals and working capital targets.Collaborate with leadership to optimize use of credit facilities.Ensure accurate classification of cash transactions within the GL and timely identification of reconciling items.Inventory & Cost Accounting
Reconcile inventory balances between 3PL, inventory management and accounting systems.Maintain average costs buildups based on inventory receipts, work orders and adjustments.Partner with operations to ensure accurate COGS reporting and margin analysis.Revenue & Retail Accounting
Reconcile and post eCommerce sales (Amazon, Shopify, etc.) and retail channels (Target, Walmart, distributors).Monitor chargebacks, co-op advertising, promotional allowances, and deduction activity.Work cross-functionally with Sales and Operations to resolve disputes and ensure proper revenue recognition.General Ledger & Compliance
Maintain fixed asset register and record depreciation, lease amortization, and other recurring entries.Implement process improvements and internal controls to strengthen financial accuracy and efficiency.Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or equivalent accounting expertise).3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a CPG, manufacturing, or inventory-based environment.Strong understanding of GAAP, accrual accounting, and financial reporting.Experience with accounting systems (NetSuite, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar).Proficiency in Excel; comfortable with pivot tables, lookups, and reconciliations.Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.Ability to thrive in a growing, entrepreneurial environment.Preferred Experience
