Job descriptionCollaborative 13-member team with integrated design and manufacturing functions. Frequent interaction with a Mexico-based manufacturing site. Supportive onboarding for Caterpillar-specific systems and tools. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (required). 3–7+ years of relevant experience; new graduates will not be considered. 3d modeling experience (CREO preferred) Proficiency in FEA, EM and thermal analysis, CFD, and rotating component design. Familiarity with electric motor manufacturing processes (e.g., brazing, coil forming), PPAPs, PFMEAs, and PCNs. Strong command of GD&T and tolerance analysis. Excellent communication skills; detail-oriented and self-motivated. Spanish language skills are a strong plus. One 30-minute virtual interview via Microsoft Teams with the hiring manager and two team leads. Informal format focused on background, technical skills, and team fit. Brings hands-on experience in electric motor design or manufacturing. Comfortable flexing between design and manufacturing responsibilities. Not seeking entry-level roles and holds a formal engineering degree.
Job description : Overview :
This team at Caterpillar is focused on electric motor systems for large mining trucks. This role plays a critical part in the design and manufacturing of traction motors, generators, and retarding grids, supporting both new product initiatives and ongoing design enhancements.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead design control for electric traction motors, generators, and retarding grids.
- Execute 3D modeling, drawing creation, and component release processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across design and manufacturing.
- Travel occasionally (up to 25%) to a manufacturing facility in Mexico to support engineering and process changes.
- Analyze technical challenges, implement design changes, and influence manufacturing improvements.
- Participate in field failure analyses and propose design enhancements for vibration, fatigue, and thermal performance.
