Job Title : Mechanical Engineer
Location : Remote
Duration : Long Term Contract
Job summary
We're looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in ANSYS and CAD who can lead simulation, modelling, and structural analysis tasks across product development cycles. The ideal candidate translates product requirements into validated FEA models, performs structural / thermal / dynamic simulations, and delivers actionable recommendations to design teams.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, run and interpret finite element analyses (FEA) using ANSYS (Mechanical / APDL or Workbench) for static, dynamic, thermal and nonlinear problems.
- Create, clean up and simplify CAD geometry for analysis; build robust meshes (tet / hex / structured) and apply appropriate element types and contact definitions.
- Perform modal, harmonic, transient dynamic, buckling, fatigue and thermal-stress simulations as required.
- Validate models against test data and refine simulation approaches; identify root causes and propose design modifications.
- Work closely with design / Manufacturing / Systems teams to integrate simulation findings into product designs and DFx reviews.
- Prepare clear technical reports, design change requests, and presentation-ready summaries for stakeholders.
- Automate routine simulation tasks and post-processing using scripting (ANSYS APDL, Python, or similar).
- Support tolerance studies, sensitivity analyses, and design optimization (DOE, topology / parametric studies).
- Mentor junior engineers on best practices for CAD preparation, meshing, boundary conditions and result interpretation.
- Maintain simulation documentation, templates, and libraries (materials, load cases, meshing recipes).
Required skills & qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline.3+ years of practical FEA experience using ANSYS Mechanical / Workbench and familiarity with APDL or scripting.Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA or equivalent) with experience preparing models for analysis (defeaturing, simplifying, partitioning).Solid understanding of structural mechanics : stress / strain, elasticity, plasticity, contact mechanics, fatigue life estimation.Proven experience in mesh strategy and convergence studies; ability to choose element types and mesh densities that balance accuracy and run-time.Experience with nonlinear materials, large deformation analysis, contact problem setups, and transient dynamic analysis.Good data visualization and result interpretation skills; able to turn simulation outputs into actionable engineering decisions.Basic scripting / automation skills (Python, APDL macros, or similar) for model setup and post-processing.Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to write reports and present technical findings.Preferred (nice-to-have)
Master's degree in a relevant field.Experience with other solvers (LS-DYNA, Abaqus, Nastran) or multiphysics (thermal-fluid-structure coupling).Knowledge of manufacturing processes (injection molding, casting, welding) and how they affect structural performance.Hands-on testing experience (strain gauges, modal testing) and correlation of test vs. simulation.Familiarity with optimization tools and topology optimization workflows.Experience with version control for simulation files and PLM / ALM systems.
