Must-Have :

• Minimum of 1 year of burn experience in a burn unit.
• PICU experience is required.

Description :

MUST HAVE 1 YEAR OF BURN EXPERIENCE IN A BURN UNIT.

Floating to a burn unit does not count as relevant experience.

Basic EKG interpretation test will be assigned during orientation.

Critical care RNs will have tests beyond basic interpretation.

Unit is equipped for adult and pediatric patients with an average daily census of 4.

Certifications required : BLS, PALS, ACLS; advanced burn life support is preferred.

Patient-to-nurse ratio in the unit is 1 to 2, treating it as an ICU.

Electronic medical record system in use is Cerner.

Charge nurse responsibilities are present.

Burn tech assists with hydrotherapy and dressing changes on select shifts.

Every other weekend work is required.

Holiday commitment includes working 2 out of 3 holidays.

Scrub color is navy blue.

Telemetry systems must be understood and managed independently.

Knowledge of ventilation care is necessary.

Consults are performed by hospitalists and intensivists, but burn surgeons cover burns.

Pharmacy and respiratory therapy services are available 24 / 7.

Staff may be placed on call if census dictates a drop.

Shifts may include 6AM or 6PM.

Floating to PICU, pediatric ICU, or adult ICU may occur.

Floor-specific orientation will include 2 shifts in the burn unit, 1 shift in PICU or ICU, and 1 shift in pediatrics.

Common diagnoses include primary burns at both ICU and medical-surgical levels for adults and children.

A minimum of 6 months to 1 year experience in a burn ICU is preferred.

Cancellation policy allows for cancellation of up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment.
