Unitek Solvent Service - Company Overview
Unitek is a locally operated company that has been in business since 3 / 1 / 1989, it has grown to be the largest petroleum recycling company in the state of Hawaii.
In July 2019, Unitek became an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) where the employees have an equity stake in the company.
Its main offices and recycling facility are located on Oahu and has locations on Maui, Kauai and the Big Island. Unitek collects and processes petroleum products that would otherwise be sent out of state for disposal.
Unitek has been in the same location from day one and has been continually operating since 1989. During the COVID pandemic, Unitek was deemed an essential service and was able to maintain its employee count and keep its employees working full time.

Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
- Review invoices for extensions, approval for payment by authorized department head, compare against PO, and code invoices.
- Post invoices into the A / P system.
- Alert Accounting Supervisor of invoices with large or inconsistent or unusual amounts .
- Reconcile between vendor statements and outstanding vendor balances.
- Scan and file vendor invoices and maintain vendor files (both hard copy and digitized).
- Monitor and update coding for 1099 vendors while double-checking tax classifications necessary for GET filing.
Accounts Receivable
- Post daily receipts and resolve any discrepancies between cash receipt and invoiced amount.
- Record and work to collect bounced checks
- Prepare monthly customer statements.
- Follow-up on delinquent accounts by making collection calls.
Money-Handling & Banking
- Prepare daily bank deposits and post daily deposits (cash & cards) to customer accounts.
- Ensure deposits in the bank are reconciled with the books.
Other Responsibilities
- Daily run to post office to pick up mail.
- Sort mail and process checks, and route vendor invoices and other correspondence to the appropriate departments.
- Answer and route phone calls, take and route messages as needed.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
The ideal candidate will have
- 2+ years of general accounting experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products
