Position : Assistant Professor of Latinx Community Health

Effective Date : August 19, 2024 (Fall Semester)

Salary : The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary is $5,405 to $11,994 / per month (12 monthly payments per academic year).

The anticipated hiring range is $6,667 to $7,084 / per month. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications :

or DrPH in Chicana / o / x Studies, Latina / o / x Studies, Ethnic Studies, Community Health, Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Science, Human Development, Environmental Health, / Justice, Medical Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Women / Gender Studies, Urban Planning, or related Social Science fields from an accredited institution.

Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by or before August 1, 2024.

Demonstrated ability to conduct applied research and / or action research using qualitative methods, quantitative methods, or both, on issues impacting the health of diverse Latinx communities within the .

  • Demonstrated potential to teach Latinx community health, and / or Chicanx and Latinx Studies at the college level
  • Demonstrated potential to create courses focused on Latinx community health, and / or Chicanx and Latinx Studies and / or related disciplines
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Demonstrated potential to apply critical theories and frameworks informed by an understanding of the history of federal, state, local and / or institutional processes and policies that have created and sustained inequitable health outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively engage diverse Latinx communities through participatory, engaged, and / or action research that builds community capacity to identify, analyze, prioritize, and address issues impacting their health (.
  • individual factors such as physical and mental health interactions; interpersonal factors such as cultural competency; community level factors such as access to, green spaces and healthful food options;

institutional level factors such as access to local health facilities and preventative health measures; and policy level factors such as access to quality health care)

  • Commitment to using an equity perspective to create more just and healthy communities in low-income, multi-racial communities in collaboration with community leaders and community-based, social justice organizations.
  • Experience (or potential) to teach quantitative and / or mixed-methods research and analysis
  • Experience (or potential) using interdisciplinary approaches
  • Experience teaching Chicanx / Latinx Studies or Latinx health courses at all levels may include cross-listed courses with other departments
  • Ability to mentor Chicanx / Latinx students, including first-generation and other underrepresented students, in and out of the classroom through such high-impact practices as faculty-supported research, internships, service learning, education abroad, or other student development activities
  • Successful experience in working with and advising student organizations
  • Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body ()

Duties :

  • Teach courses at various levels including cross-disciplinary courses within the curriculum (Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and / or any combination
  • Mentor and advise students
  • Develop new courses and update existing courses in the curriculum
  • Develop and promote interdisciplinary scholarship that links our classrooms to local Latinx communities, contexts and social movements
  • Maintain and engage in research, scholarly and creative activities leading to publications and presentations
  • Participation in campus and system-wide committees, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues
  • Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community
