About the Organization

CP Rochester and Happiness House are private nonprofit health, educational, residential and human service organizations that have been serving communities in the Finger Lakes Region since 1969 and the Greater Rochester Area since 1946. Today with sites in Rochester, Canandaigua, Geneva, Gorham, Midlakes and Waterloo, our agencies offer an array of educational, therapeutic, recreational, residential and family support programs and services for children and adults with and without disabilities. On average, our agencies serve 3,650 families each year and employ approximately 600 people.

Our staff consists of dedicated and knowledgeable professionals and clinicians with expertise in the areas of Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Physical, Occupational, Speech and Music Therapies, Psychology, Service Coordination, Nursing, Dental Services, and Developmental Disabilities.

Behavior Specialist

Location : Happiness House - Geneva site

Pay Range : $58,000 - $72,000 per year

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work : This is a full-time / school year position (37.5 hours per week). Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during business hours. Evening work may be required as job duties demand. This position follows the school calendar with vacations coinciding with school breaks. Summer 6-week session is included in school year employment. Summary / Objective : The Behavior Specialist working for Happiness House, with potential consultation to CP Rochester, will work collaboratively with the Associate Director of Evaluations to perform duties as described below. The Behavior Specialist will work to build rapport with the Early Intervention and Preschool Staff so appropriate services are being provided by staff on site. In addition to performing the essential functions of the Behavior Specialist position, other training opportunities may arise due to the need for staff training across all affiliated agencies.

Required Education and Experience

  • NYS Certification as a BCBA / Behavior Specialist or School Psychologist with training in Behavior assessment and implementation
  • Three years experience, preferably working with young children with developmental disabilities and their families.
  • Experience in early childhood development and family intervention preferred
  • Knowledge of available community resources, including typical preschool programs.
  • Valid NYS driver's license
  • Essential Functions :

  • Imparts agency philosophy of 'Equal Opportunity, Independence and Realization of Individual Potential' to children, families, program staff, and community resources.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of A.B.A. concepts, practices, techniques, and is fluent at providing each in a school setting to help support challenging behaviors within individual classroom and common school environments.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy.
  • Provides consultations, in-service, and training to teachers, clinicians, and other staff members as needed.
  • Completes initial assessments, re-evaluations, and other evaluations / assessments as required by agency guidelines and New York State regulations for behavioral concerns.
  • Collaborates with the Special Education Teacher to conduct functional behavior assessment, as well as the development and implementation of Behavior Plans.
  • Provides consultation and direct observation to all classrooms on a regular basis.
  • Meets on a regular scheduled basis with Special Education Teachers to discuss students, behavior documentation / plans, and overall IEP goals.
  • Designs behavior programs as needed for individual children.
  • Oversees implementation of behavior management programs and behavioral philosophy throughout programs.
  • Attends Human Right Committee meetings as needed for Children's or other agency needs
  • Provides support and consultation to parents as needed through evaluation and the interpretation of results, behavioral consultation, and other topics as appropriate.
  • Provides support and consultation to staff as needed through training of staff, preparation of materials, and facilitating the implementation of individualized and / or classroom-wide behavioral programming.
  • Supervises student interns and volunteers when appropriate.
  • Meets regularly with Associate Director of Evaluations and Program Director to discuss child, family, classroom, and department concerns, needs, and strengths.
  • Adheres to Agency's policies and procedures as well as department guidelines.
  • Participates in conferences, workshops, and in-service training as needed or recommended to enhance job skills and personal growth and development.
  • Participates in conference to meet the 90-minute annual Evaluation Training Requirement for Early Intervention, if applicable.
  • Performs other duties at the discretion of the Associate Director of Evaluations or his / her designee.

The employee must frequently lift and / or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move objects up to 30 pounds. The employee will occasionally work with children with behavioral overreactions and must be able to handle these situations.

    Travel : Travel is primarily local during the business day but employee will be expected to work at any of our partner agencies. Some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

    The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, internal equity, and location.
