Kids Club Director

The Salvation Army's Lynn Corps is hiring a Kids Club Director and offers an excellent benefit package to eligible employees. Pay Range : $1,080 per week

40 hours per week (Exempt)

The Director is responsible for fostering an environment that allows children, their families, and the staff to develop to their full potential. The Director is accountable for program operation, incorporating The Salvation Army culture, philosophies, policies, and the development of an inclusive environment and positive relationships with parents / guardians, children, families, and clients.

This job description is not all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential duties of the position. Other duties, responsibilities, and tasks may be assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Ensure all staff implement EEC guidelines, The Salvation Army values, philosophies, and policies.
  • Provide monthly statistics and to Early Education Program Manager
  • Complete monthly CCFA billing / attendance and submit to Social Ministries Administrative Assistant
  • Ensure that all staff interact and communicate respectfully with children demonstrating an inclusive environment.
  • Provide support and resources for staff on program development.
  • Implement Salvation Army guidelines by maintaining parent / guardian master file, accurately updating weekly statistics, following appropriate telephone protocol, and conducting parent / guardian tours.
  • Focus on special marketing, with assistance from the DHQ Advancement Department, efforts during key enrollment periods.
  • Maintain on-going marketing efforts during remainder of year to sustain enrollment.
  • Market program to community (e.g., visiting local businesses, distributing flyers).
  • Meet center specific enrollment targets / goals.
  • Maintain active waiting lists to ensure that available slots are filled quickly.
  • Review enrollment packet, and center policies and philosophies at time of enrollment.
  • Adhere to standards and state and local licensing requirements and Salvation Army standards for all of the following areas : health and safety conditions, nutrition, staff files, qualifications and schedules, staff / child ratios, and children's files.
  • Ensure that all licenses and permits are current.
  • Supervise staff in documentation of all accidents, notify parents / guardians in a timely manner, and notify state licensing agent as needed.
  • Follow state regulations pertaining to incidents of abuse or neglect.
  • Remain up to date with KeepSAfe and other trainings. Work with staff to make sure they remain up to date as well.

Hiring

  • Recruit staff through outreach to community, colleges, high schools, minority organizations, and local resources. Oversee the process of screening, interviewing, and hiring in collaboration with Corps Officer (s) and Early Education Program Director.
  • Serve as a center resource for personnel policies / benefits, and processes bi-weekly timesheets.
  • Conduct new hire orientation for all incoming staff
  • Supervision

  • Ensure implementation of all staff duties as described in their job descriptions. Conduct regular observations, evaluations of performance in collaboration with Corps Officer (s) and Early Education Program Manager including development and monitoring of progress of individual goals.
  • Develop key staff to share leadership roles in the center.
  • Utilize progressive counseling, document disciplinary action, and if necessary, separate staff in accordance with EEOC, federal, state, local, and company guidelines by working with DHQ Human Resources.
  • Leadership / Team Building

  • Establish and maintain team building among all teachers / group leaders and whole center staff by meeting regularly.
  • Support and sustain positive morale of the staff. Solicit input from staff and follow-up promptly.
  • Ensure that team members communicate directly, work to resolve conflicts, and avoid gossip.
  • Serve as a role model by assuming a fair share of work including classroom and center responsibilities as needed : kitchen, substituting, etc.
  • Implement programs to achieve staff retention and decrease turnover.
  • Parent / Guardian Communication

  • Oversee ongoing staff / parent / guardian communication
  • Be available and accessible to parents / guardians every day and respond to parent / guardian concerns.
  • Share resources with parents / guardian through discussions, articles, newsletters, workshops, and community contacts.

    Requirements include :

  • Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or occasional continuous basis.
  • Grasp, push, pull objects such as reference materials, files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to load and to change settings, devices, fixtures, on various equipment used in and around an office environment
  • Operate telephone and other electronic communication devices.
  • Operate various other office equipment including personal computers, copiers, fax machines, and scanning equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to be creative, original, intuitive, and perceptive.
  • Ability to think logically and critically.
  • Ability to envision a project from beginning to end.
  • Ability to solve complex problems, make appropriate judgments and decisions
  • Work Experience :

  • Required 3 to 5 years of management / leadership experience plus additional teaching experience
  • Experience with Christian Education Programs for school age children such as Sunday School or Vacation Bible Study preferred
  • Education Requirements :

    Must be at least 21 years of age and meet one of the following sets of requirements :

  • Have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Guidance, Human Services, Nursing, Psychology, Physical Education, Recreation, Child Psychology, the Arts, Social Work, Sociology or Child Care, and have six months experience working with school age children; and have six months of administrative experience or have evidence of satisfactory completion of at least nine credits in management or administrative subject areas from an accredited institution of higher education; OR
  • Have a Bachelor's Degree in any field or an Associate's Degree in any of the fields listed in 102 CMR 7.32 (2) (a) 1; and have eighteen months of working with school age children; and have six months administrative experience or have evidence of satisfactory completion of at least nine credits in management or administrative subject areas from an accredited institution of higher education; OR
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent; and have four years of experience working with children, two-thirds of which is with school age children and have one year of administrative experience or have evidence of satisfactory completion of at least nine credits in management or administrative subject areas from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Other Qualifications :

  • Current Certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid, or its equivalent and CPR.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Applications and various databases
