Position Summary :
This is a grant-funded temporary position expected to end on December 31, 2025.
The Youth Programs Coordinator works with the Senior Manager of MuseumLab to design and facilitate developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant youth programming, including workshops, events, and specialized art and making programming in both formal and informal education settings. This position works collaboratively and cross-departmentally to create high-impact youth programming.
Supervisory Responsibilities :
- Mentoring and modeling best practices for Educators, interns, and volunteers in MuseumLab spaces.
Essential Job Duties :
Works with the Senior Manager of MuseumLab to plan and staff mlabPASS programs, Youth Nights, and additional youth programming.Coordinates partnership with Manchester Academic Charter School (MACS).Monitors and assists visitors and participants, ensuring safe experiences that may involve tools and equipment.Acts as a visible and accessible, caring adult for youth, serving as a liaison between youth, their interests and potential programs of MuseumLab.Purchasing supplies, record keeping and budget tracking for youth programs.Additional Responsibilities :
Participates in programmatic ideation sessions.Attends, and participates in, professional development offerings related to youth development and growing an informal education practice.Fosters a community valuing social justice and amplifying youth voice.Assists in the inventory and control of supplies and equipment for youth and teen programs and maintenance of MuseumLab spaces.Works with the public across other exhibit spaces within the Museum campus.Adhere to all organization policies and procedures in the execution of duties.This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Job Qualifications : Education :
Bachelor's degree in Art, Art Education or related field. Substitution of years of experience may be considered equivalent to formal educational training.Experience :
Previous work with youth, educators, and administrators strongly preferred.Previous experience with budgeting or inventory management strongly preferred.Two or more years of experience required :
Developing, implementing, and facilitating art or maker programming with youth.Working with youth and teens, in formal and / or informal learning environments in a related field (e.g. fine art, creative art, interactive media, theatrical arts, education etc).Working with, or familiarity with, tools and processes that include, but are not limited to : woodworking, digital art, metalworking, fiber, etc.Skills :
Interest and enthusiasm for working with youth, teens, partner organizations, educators and familiesOpen-mindedness, flexible thinking, reflective, and ability to adjust expectations and actions as neededConsistently engaged in personal growth of process, technique, fluency with materials, etc.Highly organized with an eye for detailExcellent oral and written communication skillsProactive, ability to take initiative, and able to work both with a team and independentlyAbility to plan ahead and work within both external- and self-imposed timelinesPhysical Requirements & Equipment Usage :
Walking, standing, and sitting : The duties and responsibilities associated with this position will be performed in a stationary position (standing or sitting) for approximately 50% of the workday, and will require movement through the museum spaces to interact with visitors, educators, and to activate museum experiences.Lifting : Regular lifting and moving of furniture, equipment, and supplies weighing up to approximately 50 lbs.Manual Dexterity : May operate various equipment, including but not limited to power tools, sharp tools, metalworking equipment, and sewing equipment etc.The physical demands and work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. Work Environment, Hours of Work, and Travel Requirements :
Tuesday-Saturday schedule, 10 : 00 a.m.- 6 : 00 p.m.Occasional later evening hours required.Duties are performed in a museum environment with regular interaction with the public, children, and families.Clearances :
