Operates and maintains backhoe for repairing hi -low shoulders, washout, clean out drainage ditches and to install sideline and cross line pipe.
Operates and maintains heavy motorized equipment e.g. tandem dump truck / trailer hauling waste material / dirt, trees, etc sand spreader, roller front end loader etc.
Operates motor graders in ditching, shoulder operations ,and repairs, grading and machining roads, driveway installation or snow and ice removal.
Operates a motorized street sweeper, sand spreader, roller and front end loader. Set up traffic control according to MUTCD Standards to warn motorists of roadwork ahead.
Performs other manual labor as necessary such as : painting and making minor repairs of buildings, water system at maintenance facilities to keep building and grounds in acceptable appearance and condition.
Operates and maintains electric / gas powered and hand tools in various phases of roadway maintenance e.g. chain saw, shovel, bush axes, weed eaters, drills, wrenches, air compressor, etc .
Operates various pieces of equipment in snow and ice removal as necessary. Performs other job related duties, litter and debris pick up, removal of dead animals, pothole patching, including on call for after hour emergencies.
Assists during emergencies and when crew is in on-call status, is available 24 hours per day. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement : A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Requirement : The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards.
May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and / or other departmental-related emergencies.
Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
