Position Summary :
The Database Engineer & Systems Integration Specialist II supports the design, administration, monitoring, and maintenance of on-premises and cloud database management systems. This position assists with developing and maintaining ETL and ELT processes and implementing and supporting APIs that connect internal and external systems. The role contributes to the management and monitoring of database performance, interfaces, and integrations to ensure secure and reliable data operations. The individual follows established standards and procedures, seeks input when encountering complex issues, and applies sound judgment to maintain smooth and efficient performance across hospital systems and websites. This role collaborates closely with team members to support system integration, API functionality, and problem resolution.
Position Requirements :
- Licensure / Certification / Registrations : None required; Epic Clarity Certification a plus. Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer (DP-600) a plus.
- Education : A Bachelor of Science required, preferably in computer science or related field. A Master's degree in computer science or related field is preferred.
- Experience : 1–3 years of experience supporting database administration and development in Microsoft SQL Server (2016–2022) environments within Windows Server systems. Primary experience involves maintaining and monitoring SQL Server environments in both on-premises and cloud settings. Additional experience includes contributing to ETL and ELT development using tools such as SSIS, C#, Python, or equivalent technologies to enable data integration between systems, as well as participating in the build and maintenance of APIs that facilitate data exchange and integration across applications. The position also includes exposure to Microsoft Fabric or comparable modern data platforms, including the use of OneLake and Data Factory for managing data pipelines. Additional responsibilities involve assisting with monitoring and maintaining Fabric Data Lake storage and SQL databases , supporting basic data mapping and governance activities in Microsoft Purview, and helping to maintain HL7 interface engine operations to ensure secure and accurate data exchange between clinical and ancillary systems. The individual may also provide support for internal web applications and reporting tools using .NET, ASP, HTML, Bootstrap 4, and MVC methodologies.
- Skills & Abilities : Foundational knowledge of database architecture, optimization, and performance concepts across on-premises and cloud environments. Working familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, C#, and basic data integration frameworks. Experience assisting in the build and maintenance of APIs that support data exchange and integration between internal and external systems. Exposure to Microsoft Fabric and modern data platform concepts such as medallion architecture and data governance principles. Ability to assist in data modeling, query design, and the creation of analytical reports. Familiarity with HL7 message structures, interface engines, and basic use of monitoring tools such as SolarWinds. Awareness of Azure resource management, networking, and security fundamentals to support hybrid operations between on-premises and cloud environments. Exhibits strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with a demonstrated commitment to quality, accuracy, and measurable results. Demonstrates strong customer service and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to communicate clearly—both orally and in writing—with technical and non-technical audiences. Essential Functions :
Assists in troubleshooting issues related to databases, data extracts, and system interfaces, and provides basic QA support during new system implementations under the direction of senior team members.Supports the administration and maintenance of hospital databases, ensuring data integrity and security in alignment with established standards and procedures. Assists in applying database management and software development practices related to programming, access, and data security as directed by senior staff.Install, configure, upgrade, monitor, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances across on-premises, vendor-hosted, and cloud environments. Ensure database performance, integrity, reliability, and availability through proactive tuning, capacity planning, and security hardening. Perform backup, recovery, and patch management following established change control and disaster recovery procedures.Manage data security as it applies to databases, reporting and interface to applications.Assists in the design, development, and maintenance of ETL processes and data integration pipelines using SSIS, C#, Python, and Microsoft Fabric. Supports the implementation and monitoring of Data Factory pipelines, Notebooks, and medallion architecture layers (bronze / silver / gold) to help standardize and improve data flow across enterprise systems under the guidance of senior staff.Assists in monitoring database performance, capacity, and reliability, and supports efforts to improve monitoring processes and system tuning under the direction of senior team members.Demonstrates a basic understanding of data protection strategies for supported database platforms, including backup and recovery, replication, high availability, and point-in-time restores, while following established procedures and guidance from senior staff.Work with vendors, internal Information Technology (IT) teams and users in the implementation of new applications including database install, upgrade, and configuration.Assists in implementing, supporting, and monitoring HL7 interfaces and related healthcare data exchanges using integration engines such as Summit Exchange, Mirth, Cloverleaf, or Rhapsody. Supports efforts to ensure message reliability, data quality, and interoperability between internal applications, the hospital’s EMR, and external vendor systems under the direction of senior team members.Utilize tools such as SolarWinds or other monitoring platforms to track database health, performance, and connectivity. Respond to alerts and incidents promptly, ensuring minimal downtime and effective root-cause analysis.Follows established procedures for database management and recommends potential process improvements to senior staff when appropriate. Assists in implementing approved process changes and develops basic queries and reports using approved tools under the guidance of senior team members.Assist in the development and maintenance of the hospital's websites for internally developed applications.Participate in 7 / 24 on-call rotation and responsibilities.This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties.
