Job description

Our Development Team produces beautifully designed, green affordable and mixed-income communities. Our buildings consistently set new benchmarks in sustainable design and provide a platform for social programming for our residents, including health, social service, education, culture, and recreation programs.

The Development Group is seeking a Summer 2026 Development Intern, based in our New York City office. The Intern will gain insight into the real estate development process and will learn tangible skills related to developing mission-driven affordable and mixed-income housing.

This is a full-time hybrid internship with a pay rate of $35 per hour.

Role and Responsibilities :

  • Assist in managing multidisciplinary teams and coordinating projects
  • Assess new development opportunities through site due diligence, research, and financial analysis
  • Assist in the preparation of responses to public and private request for proposals (RFPs)
  • Participate in project underwriting through the development of detailed financial models
  • Assist in preparing project financing applications
  • Review project design documents and cost estimates
  • Assist in project close-out activities during lease-up and stabilization of new developments

Requirements

  • Candidates must be enrolled in a Master's degree program; real estate development or relevant field
  • A Bachelor's Degree is a requirement
  • Ideal candidate will have education or work experience focused in one or more of the following areas : real estate development, real estate finance, investment, architecture, urban planning, design and construction management.
  • Candidate should demonstrate a strong interest in affordable housing finance and development
  • Knowledge and exposure to U.S. affordable housing programs (e.g., Section 42 Low Income Housing Tax Credits, Section 8, etc.) is beneficial, but not required
  • Skillset

  • Self-motivated, driven and proactive with an established track record of getting things done effectively, efficiently, and independently.
  • Capable with working in a fast-paced environment, both collaboratively with teammates, as well as managing tasks towards deadlines on your own
  • Strong reading comprehension and writing skills. Demonstrate the ability to distill complex subjects into quantitative analysis and written summaries to support decision making
  • Excellent analytical skills with a premium placed on real estate financing
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and an entrepreneurial attitude is beneficial
  • Meticulous attention to detail in task management systems, filing, budget management, due diligence reviews, and financial analysis
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint
  • Proficient knowledge of building design and ability to review design drawings is beneficial
