Description :

The Registered Nurse will work in a Medical Surgical unit.

The department consists of 30 beds.

Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 4-5 during the day and 1 : 5-6 at night.

Common patient diagnoses include total joint replacements, spinal surgeries, urological procedures, and abdominal surgeries.

The unit frequently manages hemo hemovacs and JP drains, as well as colostomies.

There is no GYN service as those patients go to maternity.

The charge nurse is present on each shift and may take a low acuity assignment at night.

Nursing assistants or patient care technicians are available, with a ratio of 1 tech for every 12 patients.

Registered Nurses are not required to titrate drips, with occasional heparin drips, PCA pumps, and TPN in use.

Respiratory therapy is performed by the RT team, and RNs primarily troubleshoot respiratory equipment.

Remote telemetry services are available, and monitor techs read and interpret data.

Registered Nurses are not required to read telemetry strips.

The shift schedule includes day and night rotations.

There is a commitment to bedside shift reporting.

Weekend work is required every other weekend, with holiday shifts as needed.

Floating to medical and telemetry units may be necessary.

The culture on the unit is described as close-knit and positive.

Additional time-off requests should be provided upfront as further requests will not be approved.

The nurse will utilize an EPIC charting system.

BSN is not required.

This is a Level 2 trauma care setting.
