Job Description

The Lead Dietary Coordinator is a key associate at Hope Network whose primary responsibilities include :

Responsible for ordering and preparing food, inventory and maintaining a kitchen in accordance with current applicable Federal, State and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, our established policies and procedures, to assure that quality food service is provided at all times.

A Lead Dietary Coordinator is delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out all assigned duties.

A Lead Dietary Coordinator is also responsible for assisting in the initial and ongoing training of direct support, clinical, and administrative staff that are assisting in food preparation and clean up.

A Lead Dietary Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and keeping all receipts and performing all duties related at the end of the month. Will also supervise Dietary Coordinators.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES : This is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of job functions. The employee is required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other duties as assigned by management.

1. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential requirement of this position.

2. Demonstrates professional behavior that is consistent with Hope Network’s culture, mission, values, policies and procedures (review and sign acknowledgment form in Employee Handbook - 3.1 Behavioral Expectations and Commitments and 3.2 Customer Service Expectations - Hope Network Employee Handbook).

3. Become ServSafe Certified.

4. Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of food safety, preparation, and storage standards in regulation with Michigan DHHS, OSHA, and Hope Network regulatory standards.

5. Maintain a consistently clean and organized kitchen, free of dirt, debris, dust or grime, ensuring the kitchen and cafeteria are in the most sanitary state possible.

6. Design meal menus on a monthly basis in accordance with MDHHS, FDA, and Hope Network regulatory processes / procedures.

7. Order and shop for all food for meals, snacks, and special events.

8. Order and shop for all kitchen chemicals and / or any other supplies needed.

9. Act as a fiscal steward, ensuring all shopping and food & supply ordering is within set programmatic budget.

10. Participate in vocational program, acting in a supervisory role to any vocational employee working in kitchen; Provide insight and education on life skills and community living skills in relation to food preparation and storage as well as clean up, safe practices, and food handling.

11. Supervise Dietary Coordinators; including but not limited to monthly supervision, yearly evaluations, as well as addressing any and all supervisee concerns.

12. Work in conjunction with Hope Network Dietician as needed to design any special diets / adherence to dietary requirements in relation to medical and / or mental health needs; ability to train staff on these special dietary requirements.

13. Participate in program activity schedule by organizing and executing activity group(s) each week.

14. Demonstrates an awareness of and responds to signs of abuse, neglect or exploitation and follows procedures for proper reporting. Possesses knowledge of and can successfully implement Hope Network Safety Plans and Procedures to ensure the safety of those served at all times, including emergency situations.

15. Knowledgeable of and successfully implements a Person Centered Approach / Individualized Service Plan for each person served.

16. Recognizes communication as a primary means of support and uses person first language and effective communication skills to establish a collaborative therapeutic relationship with those served and professional relationships with their social support network and any external stakeholders.

17. Supports the health and wellness of each individual served in the areas of physical, spiritual, emotional, and social well-being, including, but not limited to : nutrition, medication administration, basic first aid / emergency response, leisure time management, access to recreation activities of interest, meeting spiritual needs and social relationships.

18. Understands the formal and informal assessment practices of residential programs, in order to respond to the acute and / or chronic medical, behavioral, leisure and / or care needs, desires and interests of those served, as prescribed and according to training protocols. (i.e. Diabetes management through the provision of a prescribed diet, administering insulin and responding appropriately to a high or low blood sugar level). Assists with information gathering related to outcome measures and reports any medical, behavioral, social or cognitive concerns to the appropriate team member.

19. Demonstrates knowledge of and skill in the implementation of specialized plans and techniques as indicated by the need of the person served or directed by a medical, behavioral or clinical team member.

20. Knowledgeable of SAMA crisis prevention, intervention and resolution techniques and is able to demonstrate and match techniques to particular circumstances.

21. Documents routine and any unexpected / unusual incidents, related to the care of the person served, by following the procedures / requirements as directed by the appropriate Hope Network Service Line (i.e. daily communication logs, Health Care Assessment Form, Health Care Consultation Form, Accuflo, Medication Administration Record (MAR), required eCare documentation, outcome data sheets, incident reports, resident fund ledgers, behavioral tracking sheets, consumer / client payroll, etc.). Must possess writing skills that enable the communication of detailed information, critical incidents, physician / clinical instructions, participation of those served and responses to clinical interventions.

22. Demonstrates an understanding of the diverse challenges facing those served (e.g., human rights, legal, administrative and financial) and acts as an informal advocate, if necessary. Supports those served in leading a self-determining life by providing opportunities to build self-esteem and confidence, make informed decisions and advocate on his or her own behalf, if able.

23. Performs tasks necessary to the efficient operation of the facility, as assigned. This includes, but is not limited to : maintaining the cleanliness of the home / program, meal preparation, managing the assigned work areas and reporting facility repair needs.

24. Maintain a safe work environment and, if applicable, teach appropriate use of equipment to the person served that is required for their job. Meeting MIOSHA Safety Standards, MSDS requirements are required as outlined by established Hope Network Safety Policies.

25. Actively participates in staff meetings, trainings, new staff orientation and team building when requested.

Educational / Talent Requirements :

1. Must have a high school diploma or GED and completion of food certification courses.

2. Must have reliable transportation and successfully complete all background and training requirements.

3. A valid driver’s license is required for this position.

4. Must be able to become certified in CPR / First Aid.

5. Must be Safe Served Certified

6. Must be able to work scheduled shifts (if required by the home / program, this may require weekends shifts).

7. Must be able to lift 50 lbs non-stationary weight. Ability to bend, twist, stoop, pivot and kneel while bearing weight of persons served. Using proper lifting techniques, possesses the ability to safely transfer persons served. Ability to stand a majority of shift or remain awake when working third shift.

8. Ability to demonstrate empathy for person’s served; being sympathetic to their needs and understanding when needed.

9. Ability to demonstrate attention to detail when interacting with consumers, passing medications and completing documentation.

10. Demonstrates critical thinking / problem solving skills; responding to medical and behavioral issues in a respectful manner or that is consistent with treatment plans.

11. Ability to take initiative and action to respond, resolve, and report or follow-up regarding service / treatment concerns, outstanding issues with family or guardians that is consistent with organizational standards and expectations.

12. Ability to work as part of a diverse team; demonstrating respect for cultural differences. Can accept instructions from co-workers and provide direction when required, understanding that the intent is to assure the needs of people served are met.

Work Experience Requirements :

1. Experience working with adults, specifically adults with developmental disabilities, cognitive impairments, behavioral challenges, and / or acute or prolonged traumatic exposure is preferred.

2. 1-2 year(s) dietary experience in a hospital or other residential or medical facility preferred, including menu planning, food and supply shopping and ordering is preferred.

3. Experience supervising daily kitchen operations, budgeting, and operational oversight.

4. Two (2) years’ experience or advanced degree in related field is preferred.

5. Must possess basic computer skills.
