Job Description
The Production Scheduler plans, schedules, coordinates, and / or monitors the flow of products through the complete production cycle. This position provides timely planning and scheduling of manufacturing work orders to the manufacturing floor in order to achieve both internal financial goals and customer delivery dates. Must be able to read CAD drawings and have familiarity with mills and lathes.
Essential Functions Performed by the Position
- Prepares monthly, weekly, and daily manufacturing and production schedules.
- Creates master schedule to establish sequence and lead time of each operation to meeting shipping date according to sales forecasts and / or customer orders.
- Schedules machine preventative maintenance within overall resource scheduling.
- Adjusts schedules to meet unforeseen conditions, drop in work, and breakdown situations.
- Work jointly with Engineering and Purchasing to facilitate efficiency in production workflow.
- Track and communicate metrics such as rework, on-time delivery, up-time, maintenance, etc.
- Forecast resource requirements weekly, monthly, and quarterly and provide feedback to other departments.
- Manage and report out on Work in Progress (WIP) backlog.
- Identify, communicate, and facilitate action plans regarding potential customer risks and high priority projects.
- Communicate and prioritize shipping and receiving schedules.
- Ensures documentation control within the manufacturing facility.
- Create, revise, and monitor operational processes and procedures.
- Create, maintain, and communicate multiple individual project schedules for internal and external customers.
- Responsible for inventory management, cycle counts, and forecasting (WIP, finish goods, raw material).
- Works under general direction. Independently plans work and develops approach to solution.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent required.5-10 years of experience in planning and scheduling; experience within a job shop, machine shop, or weld shop environment a plus.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.Experience with inventory control processes, job cost management, and use of third-party scheduling tools.Proven ability to identify and drive process improvement throughout the manufacturing cycle using lean manufacturing methods.Strong problem-solving abilities.Ability to interact with internal and external customers at all levels of the organization.Excellent communication skills.Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.Proficient with the use of computer systems and software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, ERP, Production Planning software).Ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment.Ability to read and understand manufacturing prints and work orders.Additional Information
