Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO)

Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of experience implementing and enforcing safety programs on projects of comparable size and complexityOSHA 30-hour Construction Safety (required, within past 3 years)Current First Aid / CPR / AED certification (required)EM 385-1-1 SSHO Competent Person training, CSP, or CHST certification (preferred)Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field (preferred)Must be available by phone within one hour during and after government working hoursStrong understanding of OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and DoD safety standardsMust Haves
Develop and maintain the Accident Prevention Plan (APP), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs)Conduct daily site safety inspections, hazard analyses, and toolbox talksServe as the primary on-site authority for all safety compliance mattersStop unsafe work activities and coordinate immediate corrective actionsInvestigate and report all incidents and near misses; lead root cause analysesOversee subcontractor compliance and maintain comprehensive safety documentationPreferred Background & Skills
Prior experience supporting U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or other federal contractsStrong leadership and communication skills with a proactive approach to building safety cultureFamiliarity with facility maintenance, construction, or engineering environmentsProven ability to deliver safety training and maintain compliance across multiple worksitesSkilled in trend analysis, reporting, and continuous improvement in safety metrics
