Polygrapher III
Polygrapher III employees conduct complex interviews and interrogations involving the use of polygraph devices for determining truthfulness; provide expert testimony in court concerning findings; perform complex investigative or research work; write reports; perform minor maintenance and repair of polygraph examining equipment; and perform other duties as assigned.
Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
Some Polygrapher III positions may require bilingual communication skills for which they may receive additional pay.
Polygrapher III positions are required to be available for call-back after normal work hours for which they may receive call-back pay.
Selected candidates will undergo a comprehensive character and background investigation, including a polygraph examination and fingerprint check prior to hire. Felony convictions, domestic violence convictions, or use of any illegal drugs may be disqualifying.
Minimum Requirements
You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
Citizenship : You must be a United States citizen or have the current legal right to work in the United States.
Education : Successful completion of an American Polygraph Association (APA) accredited polygraph training course.
Experience : Two years of full-time experience administering polygraph examinations.
Three years of law enforcement investigation experience, which includes interviewing and interrogating suspects, may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.

Screening Process

Successful candidates will be placed on a list which will be used to fill position vacancies during the next six months (180 days). For each vacancy, only those candidates with the most appropriate qualifications will be contacted by the hiring department for an interview.

Employment offers are conditional pending the results of all screening processes applicable to this position, which may include the following : confirmation of citizenship or legal right to work in the United States; completion of a pre-employment medical review and exam (which may include drug and alcohol testing); reference checks; and fingerprinting.
