JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE : MAISD Transition at Craig Campus Program / School Social Worker

CLASSIFICATION : Professional

REPORTS TO : Principal of MAISD Transition at Craig Campus

SUPERVISES : Not applicable

TERMS :

This position is a 201 total paid days position offering full family medical, dental, and vision benefits. Dental, vision, and life insurance are paid by the district at no cost to the employee. Personal business days and sick time paid. Retirement through the Office of Retirement Services (Pension Plus or Defined Contribution).

SALARY RANGE :

This position is on the Centerbased Professional Scale, $61,147 - $98,273.00 on the MA lane. Lanes available for MA+30 and MA+60 as well.

GENERAL JOB FUNCTION :

The Program Social Worker strives to help maximize participants' educational attainment and environmental adjustment by providing instructional, behavioral support and crisis intervention to participants with cognitive and / or multiple challenges. This includes offering professional recommendations on programming based upon empirical evidence, analysis, and regular assessments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

1. No physical or mental restrictions that would, with reasonable accommodation, prevent performance of the essential job functions and responsibilities.

2. Possession of a Master's degree or higher in School Social Work.

3. Evident of MDE approval as a School Social Worker

4. Physically capable of providing appropriate intervention with disruptive, aggressive, and non-compliant participants.

5. Ability to work and communicate effectively with teachers, classroom staff, caregivers, family members, community agency partners, administration, and other support services personnel.

6. Ability to instruct new staff in the utilization of positive behavior supports

7. Knowledge of evidence-based strategies and interventions.

8. Extensive knowledge and experience with positive behavior support.

9. Ability to work as a member of a team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

At least two years experience as a practitioner in a mental health agency or school setting.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

1. Assists teachers and other staff in the development of positive behavioral support plans and emergency intervention plans.

2. Coaches individual staff and teams in classroom management strategies and behavior support plan implementation.

3. Facilitates team meetings to educate staff on current crisis intervention techniques and appropriate utilization of behavioral support plans.

4. Assists in the management of ongoing interventions with participants. Provides timely and appropriate response to each identified need and coordinates efforts with appropriate Craig personnel.

5. Designs individual support plans with input from parents and staff. Demonstrates the implementation of the plan while working individually with the participant.

6. Participates in regular reviews for participants who have positive behavior support plans, including emergency intervention plans containing the use of seclusion or restraint, and suggests changes to accommodate the most therapeutic methods.

7. Monitors the implementation of the plan by staff. Collaborates with colleagues to build capacity in staff.

8. Develops techniques for documenting the effectiveness of the behavior plan. Generate reports documenting the effectiveness of the behavior plan.

9. Participates in individual and program-wide data collection and analysis.

10. Assists in the planning and implementation of program improvement goals.

11. Remains knowledgeable of current literature pertinent to educational, vocational and psychological trends for the population and understands concepts of Response to Interventions for low-incidence populations.

12. Provides consultation to local school districts at the request of Administration.

13. Serves as a resource for participants and parents regarding questions on personal growth and development.

14. Makes home visits for the purpose of gathering helpful information on a participant's background.

15. Upholds the Program Code of Conduct.

16. Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by Administration.

NOTABLE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Individuals in this position must expect frequent incidents in which appropriate physical management of a behaviorally acting-out participant is required. This may range from the application of prescribed physical control procedures to the need to run to keep up with a participant attempting to make an unauthorized departure. It is important that candidates have no physical restrictions which cannot be readily accommodated and must pass a pre-employment physical.

Employees in this classification are evaluated according to current Board policy.

CREDENTIALS, SPECIAL SKILLS OR KNOWLEDGE,

EXPERIENCE AND OTHER EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS POSITION :

1. Technical Knowledge / Skills -

Must be familiar with current educational, behavior management, psychological assessment, vocational assessment and counseling methodologies. A working knowledge of computer systems is essential.

2. Decision Making Abilities -

The School Social Worker must make frequent decisions regarding participants and must be able to exercise strong professional judgment at all times.

3. Problem Solving Skills -

Must have the capability for recognizing, analyzing and solving problems experienced by participants.

4. Licenses, Certifications, etc. -

Must be approved by the MDE as a School Social Worker with all appropriate Michigan certifications.

OPPORTUNITY FOR ADVANCEMENT :

There is no opportunity for further advancement in this job classification. However, advancement to certain administrative positions is possible with proper credentials.

WORK LOCATION(S) :

Most work is performed in a classroom, training room, or specialized service area in the program setting.

TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS :

Some work is required to be accomplished outside of normal program hours. Travel around the county is expected. Travel to other parts of the state may be necessary for conferences, training sessions, etc.
