SUMMARY :
The Addiction Counselor plays a crucial role in assisting individuals battling chemical dependency by providing comprehensive assessments, personalized treatment plans, and empathetic counseling. Working within a collaborative clinical team, the counselor ensures a supportive environment for patients in both acute and residential settings.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Act as a primary therapist delivering Substance Use Disorder treatments through engaging individual and group sessions.
- Oversee and manage the patient community, promoting a positive therapeutic environment.
- Handle care management and discharge planning, including referrals for housing and ongoing care.
- Ensure timely completion of progress summaries and all necessary patient documentation.
- Submit insurance authorization requests and address denial appeals promptly.
- Conduct audits of patient records to ensure quality and compliance.
- Provide initial and ongoing assessments to accurately determine diagnoses and appropriate levels of care.
- Facilitate individual, family, and group counseling sessions that motivate and engage clients throughout their treatment process.
- Create treatment plans that are tailored and sensitive to the cultural backgrounds of clients.
- Communicate effectively with other care providers and referral sources to enhance understanding of client needs and strengths.
- Participate in ongoing professional education and supervision to continuously improve client care.
- Complete required medical documentation efficiently and in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Contribute actively as a member of an interdisciplinary team in the delivery of patient care.
- Provide crisis intervention and management support as necessary.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
A minimum of one year of experience in chemical dependency or mental health programs.CASAC, CASAC-T, or CASAC-P will be considered, provided full certification is acquired within 24 months, OR OASAS QHP (LCSW, LMSW, LMHC, LCAT, or LMFT).PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Associate, Bachelor's, or Master's Degree in a Human Services field.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Primarily sedentary work requiring occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds. Involves sitting for most of the time, with brief walks or stands occurring occasionally.
