$100,000.00 / yr - $135,000.00 / yr

The Content Manager & Web Communications Specialist supports a team tasked with improving a government website by implementing a content strategy, applying plain language best practices, and developing audience-specific messaging.
An ideal candidate is experienced in conveying complex concepts to multiple user segments, in writing, within the constraints of legacy content management systems – such as AFPIMS (American Forces Public Information Management System).
Responsibilities
Understand audience segments and user expectationsIdentify gaps, redundancy, or complexity in existing web content through a comprehensive audit of specific sections of a websiteWork with limited subject matter expert interaction, anticipating prospective revision requests and updatesOptimize content for search engine optimization, comprehension, plain language, and readabilityDevelop strategies for conveying complex content to audiences in a simple, logical, and easily understandable way that resonates with usersCollaborate with other members of the web team to identify content performance, including popular or underperforming messagingUse analytics data to create new content, as needed, to address needsBe the expert on improving messaging, addressing user needs, and defining consistent tone and style across all contentRequired
5 or more years of experience as a writer, content manager, strategic communications specialist, or similar in a government environmentExpert knowledge of AP Style and application of established branding standardsDemonstrated experience interfacing with government stakeholders and balancing competing prioritiesDemonstrated knowledge of Section 508 / WCAG ComplianceExperience developing content to support user journeysExperience with legacy content management systems used by the governmentDevelop solutions to constraints and changing prioritiesPreferred
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in communications, writing, public affairs, or similarBasic understanding of personnel / industrial security or background investigationExperience with AFPIMSSeniority level
