Job Summary
The Chief of Police has oversight over the law enforcement and crime prevention activities of the Maricopa County Community College Police Department, to include developing, planning, and implementing policies and procedures designed to provide a safe and secure environment at all College sites. This classification is assigned at the District level only.
Essential Functions
50% Serves as a knowledge expert inpublic safety, overseeing, reviewing, and providing analyses and recommendations regarding function-specific and district-wide issues.
- Coordinate regularly with College and District administration to align, where permitted under state law, public safety employee policies and procedures with administrative policies and procedures applicable to all MCCCD employees. Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews, and evaluates the work of staff.
- Foster's high-quality service by working collaboratively with College and District leadership and departments to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, employees, and community members.
- Monitors and analyzes district-wide public safety operations; proposes solution-based initiatives to resolve issues.
- Serves as District liaison with federal, state, and local public safety agencies, including interacting with the general public and facilitating positive community relations and internal stakeholders
40% Responsible for initiating agreements and understandings between College Police and local agencies within the scope of the College Police resources.
- Conducts research and develops goals, objectives, and strategies for the continuous improvement and maintenance of operational standards and best practices
- Participates in the development and implementation of tactical, long-term, strategic, management, operational, and financial plans
- Prepares and presents reports on district-wide public safety operations
- Recommends and coordinates public safety professional development and training programs
- Designs, develops, administers, and oversees the implementation of and compliance with policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Directs and oversees the conduct of performance evaluations, training, hiring, discipline, and termination procedures
10% Attends, convenes, and/or facilitates meetings
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in criminal justice, law enforcement or related field and six (6) years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, which includes two years of police command-level experience (lieutenant or above).
OR
Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in criminal justice, law enforcement or related field and eight (8) years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, which includes two years of police command-level experience (lieutenant or above).
OR
High School Diploma or and ten (10) years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, which includes two years of police command-level experience (lieutenant or above).
