INTEGRATED DESIGN and ADVISORY

The Integrated Design and Advisory business vertical is one of thebusiness verticals at Michael Baker International with more than 850 professionals located across the country. Established as a national professional and consulting services delivery platform,we unite architecture and engineering design expertise with strategic advisory services to deliver holistic and innovative solutions that address the business and project objectives of our clients. We serve clients across various sectors, including industrial, defense contractors, data centers, aerospace, life sciences, healthcare, higher education, aviation, rail and transit, and the federal government.

Integrated Design leverages the early involvement of all project stakeholders and key disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural and fire protection (MEP+S+FP) engineering, as well as architecture and planning. Our Advisory capabilities include providing solutionsacross the project life cycle along with resilience services. This offering showcases the firm's expertise in areas such as strategic consulting, planning, cybersecurity, building controls, cost management, commissioning, program management, construction support, building information modeling, digital twins, emergency response, disaster recovery, operational continuity, energy resiliency and more.

DESCRIPTION

We're seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is excited to take on a role as a technical expert and team leader.

In this role, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our projects—leading the design of cutting-edge electrical systems while building strong relationships with clients and partners. You'll work alongside a talented team of engineers, architects, and designers to bring innovative, sustainable, and high-performance buildings to life.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design and development of electrical construction plans, including layouts, details, and specifications.
  • Engineer comprehensive building systems including lighting, power distribution, and specialty electrical systems.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams—architects, interior designers, civil engineers, and other building systems professionals.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Engage with clients, contribute to proposals, and support business development efforts.

  • Other job responsibilities include :

  • Perform complex analysis, calculations, design, evaluation and inspection for a specific area of technical expertise which includes Electrical Power and Lighting.
  • Utilize Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD software to complete construction drawings. Also, use Revit as an engineering tool to design the electrical systems including device layout, power circuiting, lighting design, panel schedules, etc.
  • Review project requirements and specifications and confer with other disciplines and managers to determine assistance required in plan preparation, evaluation of project conditions, design changes and reports.
  • Front-facing with clients. Perform client and project needs assessments, determine and discuss potential solutions, and ensure satisfactory customer service. Also, attend project meetings to present design concepts and make adjustments to meet client requirements.
  • Prepare and present technical and program information to team members, management, and clients in a clear and logical manner.
  • Complete design tasks by detailing the scope of work, conducting the analysis, inspecting the site, reviewing the requirements to assure the quality of the assigned task.
  • Coordinate or perform field work to gather data and materials.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of government, military and industry criteria and standards.
  • Perform quality control procedures such as reviewing project deliverables prior to client submissions also performing an internal technical review of other engineers' designs.
  • Create a good line of communication with both internal and external customers.
  • Edit and review technical specifications and prepare a written narrative as part of the project deliverables.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals, answer RFI's and perform site visits as needed during the construction phase.
  • Prepare design fees for project managers or contractors as required as part of proposal or RFP process.
  • Experience with Telecommunications, Electronic Security Systems, Intercom, Public Address, Audiovisual, and additional special systems preferred.
  • PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 10+ years of related experience required for this position
  • Professional engineering (PE) license required
  • Experience in building electrical design
  • Experience with the National Electrical Code and basic power calculations
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills to effectively interface and communicate with team members, customers, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Familiarity with government, client, and industry local codes, regulations, and standards governing design and construction projects
  • Knowledge of SKM and / or Easy Power software
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook) and PDF software such as Adobe or Bluebeam
  • Ability to be self-motivated and to research and troubleshoot problems as they arise
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deliverable deadlines
  • Complete work in efficient and accurate manner
  • Ability to train, mentor and supervise junior engineers
  • Availability to occasionally travel to project locations
  • Other preferred skills include :

  • Federal Design-Build experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria
  • Medium voltage design experienced
  • Lightning protection system design experience
  • LEED Certification (LEED GA, LEED AP, etc.)
  • Knowledge of AGI32 and / or ElumTools lighting design software
  • Compensation

    The salary range for this position is $104,000- $181,000. The actual salary offered will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.

    Workplace Flexibility

    The position can be located in multiple locations, dependent on project needs. Remote and Hybrid work is also supported.
