General Position Summary
This position is responsible to manage the Brokerage Operations for U.S.Customs clearance of Imports. Insure the accuracy and compliance of the filing of documents in accordance with U.S.Customs Service regulations.
Essential Job Functions
CUSTOMS / IMPORT COORDINATION
- Examine and classify documents in order to make entry.
- Interface directly with Customs Broker and U.S.Customs on all issues relating to the importation of products.
- Maintain classification data base.
- Obtain product rulings.pre-classification as necessary to assure compliance.
- Ensure that all import transactions meet compliance standards set forth by U.S.Customs regulations and other governmental agencies.
- To maintain all Customs files and records in compliance with customs requirements, local regulations and internal quality systems Standards.
- To calculate and report all Customs related issues to local authorities.
- To secure compliance with local regulations on all import and export activities.
- Continue to maintain current on ACE updates and other duties related to imports and Customs related matters.
- Code & verify customs billing and audit files.
- Auditing of the commercial invoice line by line to make sure the correct valuation is files to customs.
- Verify any transaction after the entry is filed into customs.
- Responds to CBP inquires and special requests, approve POA documents and assist customers with customs bond issues.
- Coordinate deliveries or re-forwarding once it is arrived at warehouse.
- Support Inquires from sales.
- Monitor and mentor brokerage entry writers in all areas of regulations and compliance.
- Coordinates all activities in import operation in accordance with the company's management system and related OCMM Matrix.
- Contacts customers as needed; e.g. Notification of shipments; Verifies information such as delivery locations, Receives documents such as commercial invoices and packing lists; Checks customers' Electronic Data Interchange for additional information as necessary.
- Contacts carriers (steamships, co-loaders, airlines) and CFSs to obtain arrival information, charges, last free day, etc.
- Issues arrival notices / authorities to make entry to customers / customers' customs brokers, and follow up the shipment until completion.
- Checks in advance if ISF is filed, and in case not filed yet, follow up until it is properly filed (Ocean).
- Handle in-bond entries (PTT / Warehouse Transfer, IT, T&E, IE) for applicable shipments.
- Contacts carriers (steamships, co-loaders, airlines), CFSs, and truckers, etc. as needed; e.g. To arrange Warehouse Transfer; To Expedite break-down / transfers and release of cargo; To request them to make sure that the freight is stored in an appropriate storage; To resolve AMS issues, etc.
- Contacts the US Customs' Client Representatives to resolve problems.
- Releases shipments upon receipt of original bill of lading (Ocean) and / or payment and checks for COD shipments.
- Contacts trucking companies to arrange deliveries and follow up until POD and invoice are obtained.
- Work with the other departments such as Warehouse, Customs Brokerage, and Sales to smoothly handle shipments.
- Handle rate inquiries and cargo claims in a timely manner.
- Resolves problems to make sure that the shipments are completed.
- Completes AP / AR postings within 5 days after delivery.

Seeks constant improvement, more efficient and less expensive ways and means in work processes.Performs special projects and other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor / manager.Maintains high ethical standards in the workplace.Reports all irregular issues and problems to manager for solution.Maintains good communication with management, office staff members and outside contacts.Complies with all company policies and procedures.Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working area.Qualifications
Education & Work Experience
Associates degree (B.A.) or equivalent from two year college; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Must have at least 4 plus years of experience in a similar position.Software includes the use of Windows operating system, MS Office, CargoWise
