This position works within the Prevention, Education, and Coordination Team under the general direction of the Management Analyst III (Prevention and Education Coordinator). The Training Coordination Specialist serves as a member of the Prevention, Education, and Coordination Team responsible for team-wide coordination, development, and execution of targeted, strategic prevention, training, and outreach strategies, programs, and initiatives focused on preventing and addressing sexual and domestic violence, human trafficking, and stalking both internally and externally and in accordance with the DFS five core values : People-Focused, Equity, Accountability, Partnership, and Innovation.

The Department of Family Services (DFS) Mission : DFS strengthens the well-being of our diverse community by protecting and improving the lives of all children, adults, and families through assistance, partnership, advocacy, outreach, and quality services. Its workforce of over 1,300 employees is distributed at multiple county facilities and serves within six main agency divisions : Public Assistance and Employment Services (PAES); Children, Youth, and Families; Adult and Aging; Domestic and Sexual Violence Services; the Comprehensive Services Act; and Administrative Operations.

This position systematizes and coordinates learning and community engagement projects and tasks to ensure DSVS is effectively serving the needs of the community and increasing the capacity of stakeholders to reduce and prevent sexual and domestic violence, human trafficking, and stalking. Works collaboratively with DSVS and Community Partners to provide community engagement and education to support the strategic plans of DSVS, DFS, and the County of Fairfax. This involves developing and managing a team of volunteers and training them to conduct outreach and education in the community, developing and maintaining training materials, leading, and maintaining (as needed) systematized processes for prevention, training, and outreach requests implementation and follow-up, supporting in the evaluation of prevention, training, and outreach programs, and representing DSVS at community events. The duties of this position may require an alternative or flexible work schedule, including evening work and on-call work, as required to meet client needs and to ensure adequate staffing of Clinical Services operating hours.

Duties and responsibilities include :

  • Develops and manages DSVS outreach volunteer program and trains volunteers to conduct outreach and education in the community.
  • Leads, maintains, and develops (as needed) systematized processes for prevention, training, and outreach requests, implementation, and follow-up, including the Speaks Committee.
  • Conducts outreach and builds relationships with potential training partners on SV, DV, HT, and stalking.
  • Supports the evaluation of effectiveness of prevention, training, and outreach, and uses relevant evaluation data to determine effectiveness of programs and their impact, to identify existing learning gaps, and recommend changes in instructional objectives and methods and standardizing evaluations.
  • Collects data and conducts analysis regarding participation and delivery in projects and initiatives.
  • Plans, develops, and coordinates training reports.
  • Effectively applies distance learning and coordination technology tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Zoom, Eventbrite, Employee U software, tools, and learning platform) to efficiently operate and improve training and education programs.
  • Works with supervisor and other team members to develop shelf-ready training sessions, develops training outlines and aids, lesson plans, and provides instructional methods of delivering curriculum.
  • Creates and maintains high-quality trainers and speaker's table / cadre and maintains a repository of curriculum, materials including relevant prevention and training records.
  • Develops curricula and designs training courses by formulating training outlines, determining instructional methods and selecting or developing training aids, and the best type of materials that work with the method selected.
  • Participates proactively and constructively in all team and agency meetings to ensure engagement in strategic planning, team collaboration, and discussion, as appropriate, including the Awareness team.
  • On a rotational basis, provides direct coverage or backup support for Crisis Lines and / or hospital accompaniment for victims of sexual and / or domestic violence, including on-call work some evenings, overnights, and weekends.
  • Represents DSVS on interagency and interdisciplinary workgroups and committees, especially those related to sexual and domestic violence, human trafficking, and stalking as assigned.
  • Conducts community engagement and provides educational and professional training to community, volunteers, and collaborative partners, as assigned and in a second language if possible and appropriate.
  • Maintains relevant statistical and outcome data regarding educational and outreach efforts.
  • Reports to supervisor and / or designated others on educational and outreach activities.
  • Participates as an agency member in agency-wide activities and events.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in education, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field; plus three years of professional experience in curriculum development, delivery of training courses, needs assessments, and / or facilitation of team-building exercises.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED :

None.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and child protective services check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

At least 2 years of experience with community engagement, conducting outreach, and delivery of trainings and presentations.

At least 2 years of experience with training and event coordination and planning.

At least 2 years of experience in collaboration with and development of partnerships.

At least 1 year of experience working in domestic and sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking or related fields.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Ability to transport self and equipment to different County / community sites. Ability to use automated technology to access, input, and retrieve computer data. May be required to lift up to 15 lbs. Must be able to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. This job is generally sedentary in nature. Visual acuity is required to read data on computer monitor and operate keyboard-driven equipment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
