Job description

Data Director (Hybrid / Remote) Compensation :

  • Base salary of $95,000 - $105,000, generous benefits with guaranteed end-of-year bonus.
  • This position is eligible for other bonuses.

Position Details :

  • New Ground Strategies is one of the leading progressive grassroots engagement firms in the country.
  • The Data Director will be responsible for leading the firm’s data work across all internal and external operations, including managing targeting, reporting and analysis workflows for field programs including voter registration drives, voter mobilization and advocacy canvassing programs, RCTs, phone and text campaigns, relational organizing campaigns, strategic campaign planning and more.  Applicants should have a demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced campaign environment, maintain attention to detail, and think in a future-oriented way about data projects.

    • This role will support multiple programs in the 2025 / 2026 cycle that will help determine the outcome of critical on-the-ground efforts to elect Democrats nationally and at the state and local level, close the racial voting gap, and secure wins for progressive causes.   The ideal candidate will :

  • be passionate about developing and guiding data-driven strategic plans and programs to win critical elections, be committed to culturally-competent organizing and have experience working with members of diverse American communities, be eager about developing new systems and tackling hard-to-solve challenges, with the goal of maximizing program impacts.    Required Experience : 5+ years working on national or statewide Democratic campaigns, committees, or other political organizations   Required skills : Experience generating target universes, developing tactical strategies and campaign plans Ability to pull actionable insights from quantitative and qualitative data Experience developing and generating voter contact universes in VAN Experience identifying vote goals and target universes and information from public databases including Secretary of State, Census and Boards of Election websites Experience serving as VAN Administrator, including training and supporting other users Advanced SQL Skills and working with relational databases Experience with Python programming language or other scripting languages Experience with Google BigQuery, Looker Studio, and database warehouse administration Embraces spirit of collaboration / team player   Preferred additional skills : Experience reviewing historical election data and polling to project likely ranges of turnout and win numbers for project planning Proficiency with organizing tools including Empower, Echo-19, PDI, and GetThru Experience telling stories with data including creating data visualizations Experience developing data pipelines   Core Responsibilities :   Develop and refine voter contact universes for organizing campaigns Help identify universes and create saved lists for canvass programs, making critical recommendations on targeting within leadership team Develop and maintain internal and client-facing reports in Google Looker Studio, offering strategic input on design, monitoring quality and flags, and creating building pipelines between VAN and other outreach platforms Serve as the VAN Administrator for all projects including canvassing and digital advocacy.
  • This includes supporting senior NGS staff in administering their programs.
  • Assist in the development of voter research and universes for client proposals, with the opportunity to interact directly with clients.
  • Review election returns and program data to assess program impact and develop post-program reports and case studies to guide future programmatic design Provide training on voter contact systems to field staff.
