Job Description
The Lab Service Technician II is responsible for delivering all whole-genome, skim, and other sequencing technology projects on time and to quality control (QC) standards.
Due to the custom nature of these projects, the Lab Technician II is skilled in deciding what approach to take to achieve the client’s project goal and interacts with the client effectively to make these choices.
- In collaboration with the Lab Services Project Management, professionally agree with clients to build a plan for sample processing that meets the demands of the project goal.
- Log in samples to LIMS and other IT infrastructure and update databases to keep track of sample processing.
- Extract DNA from samples when vital, or ensures the Extraction Team Lead delivers extracted material and performs QC on samples.
- Ensure that DNA is of a size and concentration suitable for library preparation and bring together projects, and use appropriate methods (e.
g. shearing, segmentation).
- Build barcoded libraries for WGS or skim, using a variety of methods including end-repair / A-tailing, tagmentation, or other appropriate methods.
- Use customized probes to perform Capture-seq from libraries.
- Use a deep understanding of the variables that influence the quality of WGS, skim, and Capture-seq library preparation to optimize project approach and outcome.
- Optimally coordinate with the Sequencing and Probe coordinator and the Lab Services Project Management to prioritize sample processing and sequencing
- Store client DNA and libraries in an organized and rational manner, such that projects can be easily found and re-processed if vital.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant life sciences field is required.
- 1-3 years of lab experience ideally in NGS library prep, preferably in high-throughput labs.
- Proven track record working as part of a cross-functional team.
- Confirmed experience working with automated equipment
- Evidence of excellent lab technique is required.
