What we want

The Child Health Research Attorney leads a legal research project focused on improving child safety in Texas. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Child Health Research Attorney collaborates with university leadership to produce actionable policy analysis.

What you need to know

Please note: This is a temporary position, with an expected duration from September 15, , through January 31, .

Location: This position is located in Fort Worth, Texas.

Required Education

• Doctor of Jurisprudence or equivalent.

• This position is open to new law graduates as well as early- to mid- or late-career attorneys.

Required Licenses and Certifications

• Must be licensed to practice law in Texas (preferred) or another state or be eligible for licensure (including JD and LLM graduates awaiting bar exam results or sitting for the July bar exam).

Preferred Qualifications

• A post-graduate degree (e.g., MPH, LLM, MSW, MEd), healthcare degree (e.g., MD, BSN), or significant health-related work experience (in addition to the JD or, as appropriate, LLM) is preferred.

• Strong legal research and writing skills, a demonstrated interest in health and healthcare and/or child welfare, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

• One year of work or academic experience with pediatric or adolescent health, youth advocacy or education, childcare facilities, legal epidemiology, or related areas may be preferred.

• Exceptional research and writing skills, including publications, and health law-related interests in areas like health policy, health justice, bioethics, childcare regulation, and non-medical drivers of health, including familial stability and child safety, etc.

Responsibilities:

Research

• Researches, develops, and disseminates legal and public policy analyses to inform and shape specific state policy.

• Analyzes research data and summarizes results.

• Contributes to research papers, articles, and publications.

Mentoring

• Assist, mentors, and/or supervises law student researchers who are working on research related to the project.

• Performs other duties as assigned.
