The Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Performing Arts is a premier institution, nationally recognized for developing talent in both traditional and emerging fields of performance, scholarship, and creativity.

The Conservatory invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Scenic Design position, beginning on August 1, 2024.

Duties : The successful candidate will teach courses in the theatre program; design for the season of productions; teach additional courses in secondary areas of expertise (i.

e., theatre technology, projection, sound, Vectorworks, etc.); and work daily in the scene shop mentoring students in construction, props and painting.

Projection, carpentry and welding experience preferred. This faculty member will contribute to the ongoing development of a unique, forward-looking curriculum intended to prepare BW graduates for fulfilling and sustainable careers in the arts.

Additionally, this faculty member will meaningfully contribute to an undergraduate liberal arts university through institutional service, academic advising, scholarship, and outstanding teaching.

  • Qualifications : Strong candidates will demonstrate a commitment to teaching and developing undergraduate theatre students;
  • will possess an MFA in Scenic Design; be a strong collaborator with other faculty members, designers, directors, stage managers, production staff, and students;

and fully participate in recruiting prospective students. Preference will be given to candidates with professional experience and strong connections to the industry and graduate programs.
