The Accounting IOLTA Clerk plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of our client trust accounts. This position ensures full compliance with IOLTA regulations and supports the firm’s accounting functions by managing, reconciling, and reporting all trust-related transactions.
You’ll work closely with our attorneys, paralegals, and accounting staff, contributing to the financial backbone of one of Houston’s most respected and fastest-growing family law firms.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Transaction Processing
- Process all incoming and outgoing funds related to IOLTA accounts, including client retainers, settlements, disbursements, and refunds.
- Verify the accuracy and documentation of all trust account transactions.
- Prepare electronic transfers (ACH, wires) and checks related to IOLTA accounts.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date trust transaction records in the firm’s accounting system.
Reconciliation
Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of IOLTA bank statements.Identify and resolve discrepancies quickly and accurately.Prepare detailed reconciliation reports for review by the Accounting Manager.Compliance & Reporting
Ensure all activities comply with state bar association IOLTA rules .Assist with internal and external audits of trust accounts.Generate, maintain, and archive IOLTA documentation and reports in compliance with firm and regulatory policies.Communication & Support
Respond promptly to inquiries regarding client trust balances and transactions.Collaborate with legal staff and accounting team members to support smooth financial operations.Provide assistance with other accounting tasks as needed.Qualifications
Education : High school diploma required; Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.Experience : 2+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; prior IOLTA or trust accounting experience highly preferred.Skills :
Strong understanding of accounting principles and reconciliation procedures.Proficiency in QuickBooks, Clio, or similar accounting systems.Advanced Excel skillsHigh attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.Excellent communication and organizational skills.Benefits
