Position Specialty : CVPICU RN
Shift : 3x12 Nights
Weekend Requirements : Yes
First-time travelers accepted with PICU experience.
Diagnosis : Bedside procedures including central line placement, arterial line placement, lumbar puncture, intubations / extubations, CRRT initiation / discontinuation, ECMO cannulations / decannulations, chest exploration, and other emergent operative procedures for patients unable to transport to the operating room.
Equipment : Hamilton G5 Ventilators, DirectLink ICP Monitors, Arctic Sun Targeted Temperature Management, Baxter Prismaflex Machines.
Type of Facility : Magnet, Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and Surgery Site, Teaching Hospital.
Total Staffed Beds : 80.
Charting System : EPIC.
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is a 20 bed unit equipped to provide care to critically ill or injured pediatric patients from birth to young adulthood in a family-centered atmosphere.
The PICU team cares for children across a vast spectrum of health issues including trauma, surgery, respiratory, cardiac, hematology / oncology, and neurologic disorders.
The pediatric intensive care nurses are specially trained to provide state-of-the-art care to infants, children, and adolescent patients requiring the highest level of medical or post-surgical nursing care.
Board-certified intensivists staff the PICU 24 / 7 and collaborate with multiple medical and surgical services to offer comprehensive care.
The team includes professionals trained to care for critically ill children and their families, including respiratory therapists, nutritionists, pharmacologists, speech therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, social workers, child life specialists, hospital aides, and health unit coordinators.
Patient Age Groups : Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents.
Daily Census : 14.
Patient Ratios : Days and Nights 1 : 1 or 1 : 2.
Float Required : Yes, to NICU and Pediatric Units.
Interdisciplinary Support : IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Interpretation Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Lift Teams, Rapid Response Teams, Pharmacy, Transportation, Unit Secretary.
Patient Diagnoses : Critically ill neonatal, pediatric, and young adult patients.
Care requirements include advanced treatment modalities such as continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
Special Procedures : Bedside procedures including central line placement, arterial line placement, lumbar puncture, and other emergent operative procedures.
