Job description

Employee Engagement Manager

The City of Buckeye provides an extensive benefits package designed to support the well-being of our employees. This includes health, dental, vision, life, pet insurance, as well as wellness incentives. Coverage begins the first day of the month following the start of your employment.

At the City of Buckeye, we understand the vital role that vacation time plays in supporting the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of our employees. Vacation and sick leave accruals begin on the first day of employment and may be used upon accrual. Additionally, employees receive credit towards vacation leave accruals for years of service with other public sector retirement systems nationwide (not including Federal service).

The City of Buckeye observes eleven holidays per year : New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12%, per fiscal year.

The general purpose of the Employee Engagement Manager is to report to the Chief Human Resources Officer and to be responsible for executing citywide strategies and programs to enhance City employee professional development, engagement, and retention. This role is integral to our mission of fostering a workplace culture where employees are motivated and empowered to perform at their best. This individual is creative and passionate about employee engagement and development.

The minimum qualifications for this position include a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in human resources, business development, public policy, or related field, and four (4) years of progressive HR experience with a focus on leadership development / training, instructional design and / or talent management.

Additionally, the candidate should possess knowledge of city organization, operations, policies, and procedures, and the ability to network within the West Valley and outreach to potential engagement resources. The candidate should also have data analytics and metric focused measurement skills.

The candidate should be able to work under the pressure of deadlines while establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with City departments. They should be able to think critically and identify root cause and conduct trend analysis. They should also be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, and work with diverse groups and departments to identify key drivers for workplace satisfaction.

The candidate should have great people skills : diplomacy, integrity, and mature presence with the ability to build strong relationships and work effectively up, down and laterally across multiple departments.

Valid Arizona driver's license is required for this position. The work environment is a standard office environment. The position reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer and exercises supervision over one direct report. The position is exempt under the FLSA status.
