The lead designer will design heat tracing systems per customer specifications to successfully ensure customer satisfaction and profitability. Identify heat tracing requirements from customers' drawings, specifications, instructions, and Thermon quotations. Prepare heat tracing isometrics, panelboard schedules, cable schedules, instrument schedules, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and location plans. Use Thermon design software (CompuTrace, VisiTrace, TSDS) and establish guidelines and procedures to design heat tracing systems. This role will report to the Supervisor, Engineering and will work under The Lead Designer's day-to-day direction.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities include
- Responsible for the review of all project specifications and documentation necessary to develop a thorough understanding of the scope of work.
- Responsible for following project requirements, along with expectations on quality, schedule or other restrictions of technical nature.
- Responsible for following established process and procedure including Project Design guide, Project Execution Guide, Quality Plan and provide input where deficiencies occur.
- Responsible for maintaining the Project Design folder structure.
- Provides input in the development of Global and Regional tools and procedures as required.
- Design of small to medium projects or several small projects simultaneously.
- Teamwork - Interact with the other designers, Project Manager, to generate isometric drawings.
- Interaction with customer representative on technical issues.
- Create and review drawings using VisiTrace, Computrace and other Thermon software or methodology.
- Prepare and review drawings for accuracy.
- Check and approve drawings prepared by other designers.
- Conduct site surveys to gather information required for heat tracing design.
- Be familiar with and adhere to Thermon procedures and guides related to quality and project execution.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Key Characteristics, Competencies and Skills
Proficient / accomplished in heat tracing design.Technically proficient in drafting drawings in AutoCAD and MicroStation.Computer literate - Advanced MS Office skillsWorking technical knowledge of electricity (Ohm's Law, voltage, amperage, circuits)Working technical knowledge of piping and insulation systems and componentsWorking knowledge of Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs)Working knowledge of Codes and Standards that pertain to heat tracing (IEEE 515, NEC, IEC, etc.)Able to generate new ideas, challenges the status quo, takes risks, supports change, encourages innovation and solves problems creatively.Able to communicate effectively both verbally and written to team members, supervisor, and internal / external customers.Ability to manage several complex projects in a fast-paced work environment simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines with minimal direction.Confident, self-assured and able to master Time Management skill.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Understanding of and commitment to client service.Comfortable with taking charge and dealing with ambiguity to achieve successful outcomes.Strong team building and communication skills and the proven ability to influence change.Experience working in a High Performing engineering organization and able to provide insight, feedback and commitment.Decisive, thorough and timely when drawing conclusions and managing expectations.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Experience
Bachelor's Degree of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology preferred. Or 3 years or direct working experience with Heat Tracing in lieu of degree.Previous work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented and deadline driven work environment is a plus.Skilled in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)Experience working with Design software; CompuTrace, Visi Trace, TSDS is a plus.We transfer the WARMTH needed to make life Work.
