RN Progressive Care (PCU)

The Progressive Care Unit RN, as a professionalpractitioner, assumes the responsibility and accountability for deliveringpatient care to telemetry / progressive care patients. The Progressive Care UnitRN demonstrates the ability to make clinical judgments in an effective andefficient manner with supervision. This individual employs critical thinkingand performance ability in the coordinator of patient care, consistentlyperforms according to nursing standards, and is accountable in managing patientcare and assisting others in the management of patient care. The Progressive Care Unit RN is sometimesalso called a step-down nurse, cardiac stepdown, neuro stepdown, surgicalstepdown and in some medical centers, the PCU is also known as a transition orintermedia unit.

• Minimum Experience REQUIRED : 3 years RN experience, 1 full year of stepdown experience, 1 travel assignment, trauma level II experience.

Charting Experience : Recent EPIC experience required

Patient Population : Cardiac (post cath stents / interventions, pacers), CIWA / BH, Sepsis, DKA, CVA, CPAP, feeding tubes, crani POD 2, GI bleeds, hypothermic / bear hugger.

Skillset :

REQUIRED- Tele / 12-lead EKG interpretation (TRAVELERS REQUIRED TO PASS TELE TESTS), Initiate / titrate drips (antiarrhythmics, Heparin, Insulin, etc.). Post surgical assessment / care. NIHSS / Neuro assessments / dysphagia screen.

PREFFERED- Stable home vents, PleurX drain / pericardial drains, lumber drains, VP shunts, Narcan drips. Must have strong assessment and critical thinking skills!
