College / Department Information

The Immunology Center of Georgia (IMMCG) represents a new initiative by the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University to leverage the ability of the immune system to combat disease.

The IMMCG will accomplish this by assembling teams of biomedical researchers with strong records of scientific innovation and technological development.

The IMMCG will be co-directed by world-class immunologists Drs. Catherine Lynn' Hedrick and Klaus Ley, both of whom have made major discoveries linking immune cells to specific mechanisms of disease.

The goal of the IMMCG is to produce novel and effective treatments for conditions that heavily impact the communities of Georgia and the United States.

The new center is aggressively recruiting faculty and staff to lead projects focused on cardiovascular disease, obesity and metabolic disorders, autoimmune and infectious disease, neurodegenerative disease and cancer.

Job Summary

Job Posting Refreshed This position will work in the lab of Dr. Klaus Ley and will perform advanced administrative and technical work in support of research initiatives in the lab.

The research will be conducted with comprehensive genetic, cellular, and molecular biology and immunological techniques, including flow cytometry, cell sorting, cell culture, gene expression profiling by real-time PCR, RNA seq, and immunohistochemistry.

Participates in research data collection and documentation within FDA guidelines and research institute protocols; develops and evaluates new research techniques and procedures.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to : Assist the PI to prepare scientific reports, outcome findings and scientific manuscripts.

Oversee organization, synthesis and analysis of data and findings.The research associate is expected to provide assistance and support to the supervisor for day to day management of lab supplies and help generating data for manuscript publications.

Purification of RNA from biological samples.Isolate total RNA from sample.Purify to enrich for mRNAs, microRNAs etc. if a specific type of RNA is to be profiled.

Prepare the RNA sequencing library.Sequencing using next-generation sequencing platforms.Analyze the resultant short-read sequences.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.

OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and / or clinical experience;

previous supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability to maintain confidentiality.Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software / databases.

Shift : Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required) Pay Grade : R14Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position Recruitment Period : Until FilledAugusta University offers a variety of benefits to full-time benefits-eligible employees and some of our half-time (or more) employees.
