Summary
The Safety Manager role supports the Director, Loss Control and Project Team in safety controls, processes, and procedures for prevention of disease or injury. The position offers on-the-job experience in inspections, accident / incident investigations and enforcement of health and safety laws and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage safety compliance contractually and within Federal and State laws for various project sites.
- Lead and oversee investigation of accidents to identify causes and determine prevention measures.
- Conduct site safety inspections or evaluation of workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
- Provide education and training in safety related content.
- Consistently update Health And Safety Plans (HASP), Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and safety documentation.
- Manage safety management information system (SMIS) data entry for injury reporting and other required reporting.
- Maintain administrative record keeping for Fleet Program and safety training schedules.
- Ensure all employees have required safety training, certifications and experience.
- Assist project team with scheduled and unscheduled safety audits and enforce safety program.
- Assist with daily safety checklists for tools, equipment, and fleet as needed.
- Lead by example and promote a zero accident environment.
- Assist with coordination of drug and alcohol testing as required.
- Meet background check and fitness for duty requirements.
- Hold valid state driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Education and / or Experience
Bachelor's degree in health and safety, environmental or related academic discipline.5-10 years experience in a safety related department or field in the construction industry.Familiarity with HASP and JHA.OSHA 30-hour construction safety class or equivalent; maintain competency through 24 hours of safety related coursework every four years.Familiarity with OSHA, federal, state, and city environmental and safety regulations.CHST, STS, OSHA 500 experience is a plus.Computer Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).Working knowledge of project and financial software is a plus.Required Attributes
