PositionSummary

TheDigital Content Specialist is a strategic, high-impact role focused onamplifying Mecklenburg County's digital presence through expert contentcreation, advanced digital marketing, and website optimization. As a key memberof our Public Information Department, you'll shape compelling digitalnarratives, enhance user experiences, and spearhead innovative marketinginitiatives by leading collaborative content strategies, executing integratedcampaigns with cross-functional teams, and ensuring WCAG-compliant accessiblecontent to maximize impact for our diverse community. This role offersopportunities to advance your expertise in content creation, digital marketing,and project leadership while thriving in a dynamic, team-oriented environmentthat fosters innovation and professional growth.

Salary Range : $69,389.00 - $104,083.00

EssentialFunctions

Create and Optimize Content : Produce and refine high-quality, SEO-optimized content (e.g., blog posts, landing pages, multimedia) that aligns with brand voice and strategic goals.

Manage Website Content : Oversee content on Mecklenburg County's website using Drupal CMS (or similar platforms like WordPress / SharePoint), ensuring functionality, exceptional user experience (UX), and compliance with WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards (e.g., using tools like WAVE or axe DevTools for screen-reader compatibility).

Develop Content Strategy : Build and execute a content calendar to deliver timely, impactful content across digital channels in collaboration with marketing and communications teams.

Lead Digital Campaigns : Drive traffic, engagement, and conversions through integrated digital marketing campaigns (e.g., SEO, PPC, email, social media) using platforms like Google Ads and Meta Ads, partnering with departmental teams to ensure cohesive execution.

Enhance SEO Performance : Conduct advanced keyword research and implement on-page SEO strategies to improve search engine rankings.

Analyze and Optimize : Use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to analyze website and campaign performance, collaborating with teams to deliver actionable insights and optimize KPIs (e.g., traffic, engagement, conversions).

Collaborate Cross-Functionally : Partner closely with design, IT, and marketing teams (e.g., on community outreach or public service initiatives) to ensure seamless campaign execution, website enhancements, and accessibility compliance, fostering strong team alignment.

Streamline Operations : Optimize content workflows, troubleshoot minor website issues, and coordinate with technical support as needed.

Improve UX and Performance : Identify opportunities to enhance UX and website performance using analytics and industry best practices, prioritizing accessibility for all users.

Ensure Accessibility : Maintain user-friendly, up-to-date webpages optimized for performance and accessibility.

MinimumQualifications

Experience :

Minimumof four (4) years in digital content creation, website content management, or digitalmarketing.

Education :

Bachelor'sdegree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Web Design, Programming, or or a related field(or equivalent professional experience).

Combinationof relevant education and relevant experience accepted? : Yes

PreferredQualifications

Certifications in Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Ads, HubSpot, or Content Marketing (e.g., Content Marketing Institute).

Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) for creating visual content.

Demonstrated expertise in digital engagement principles, practices, and communication strategies.

Experience with WCAG accessibility standards and demonstrated ability to learn and apply accessibility best practices.

Knowledge,Skills and Abilities

Advanced proficiency in digital marketing (SEO, PPC, social media) and analytics tools (e.g., GA4, Meta Ads).

Exceptional writing and editing skills to produce engaging, brand-aligned content.

Proficiency in HTML / CSS and UX principles for optimizing content and websites.

Data-driven mindset, balancing creative content with performance metrics.

Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.

Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to foster effective cross-functional teamwork and align diverse stakeholders.

Adaptability to stay ahead of evolving digital trends and technologies.

Commitment to creating inclusive, accessible content that engages diverse audiences and ensures message retention.

Demonstrated knowledge of using content management systems (SharePoint, Drupal, WordPress).

Expertise in cross-browser compatibility testing and remediation.

Strong understanding of concept of content personalization and audiences.

Demonstrated expertise web accessibility guidelines, content creation and remediation.

Self-motivated, solutions-oriented and able to work independently, onsite and remotely
