Job description

About LifeMoves

LifeMoves is the largest and most effective provider of interim housing and services for homelessness in Silicon Valley since 1987. Our mission is to end homelessness by providing interim supportive housing, tailored services, and building collaborative partnerships. With over two dozen interim supportive housing communities and more on the way, LifeMoves gives our neighbors experiencing homelessness a temporary place to call home while providing intensive, customized case management through site-based programs and community outreach.

Position Purpose

The Director of Events and Engagement leads the strategy and execution of high-impact engagement through LifeMoves events and donor-focused experiences and communications, strengthening relationships with current donors, inspiring continued support, and helping volunteers meaningfully connect with our mission. As a key cross-functional leader, this role supports the organization’s efforts to meet annual private revenue goals by producing experiences that build loyalty, deepen connection, and drive giving.

This role bridges both front-of-house and back-of-house responsibilities—strategically supporting fundraising teams with a steady stream of compelling engagement opportunities, while also connecting directly with supporters and community stakeholders. The Director brings a deep understanding of donor experience, volunteer engagement, and values-based storytelling, with a proven track record of executing high-performing fundraising events.

In addition to leading donor events, the Director will inform the strategy and systems that shape volunteer engagement—ensuring those experiences are mission-aligned, thoughtfully designed, and integrated into a broader journey that can lead to long-term support. A strong sensitivity to ethical storytelling and a commitment to centering the voices of LifeMoves clients, especially those with lived experience of homelessness, is essential.

This role is a hybrid role, 2 days in admin office and three days remotely.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Event Strategy & Execution : Lead the strategy, planning, and execution of a wide range of donor-focused events, including the annual Benefit Luncheon, donor salons, webinars, and select community engagement gatherings. Ensure each event is thoughtfully designed, mission-aligned, and contributes to deepening relationships with current supporters while also creating opportunities to broaden awareness and bring new supporters to LifeMoves.

Project Management & Cross-Team Coordination : Oversee event timelines and deliverables using tools like Monday.com and RACI frameworks to drive clarity, accountability, and timely execution. Serve as the central project lead across Development, Marketing, Programs, and Operations, ensuring alignment and effective communication at every stage.

Donor Engagement Calendar : Manage and maintain a comprehensive calendar of donor and engagement events, ensuring strategic timing and integration with major fundraising and campaign efforts.

Program & Content Design : In partnership with the Marketing and Development teams, shape compelling event programs and speaker experiences that highlight LifeMoves mission, impact, and urgency centered on ethical, strengths-based storytelling that reflects client voices with care and integrity.

Vendor & Partner Management : Lead vendor sourcing, contracting, and coordination for all events including AV, venue, catering, production, and design—to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with LifeMoves standards.

Donor & Stakeholder Participation : Partner closely with Development and Marketing teams to secure attendance and participation from individual donors, corporate sponsors, and community partners. Support frontline fundraisers by aligning event strategy with cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation efforts.

Marketing & Promotion : Collaborate with the Marketing and Development teams to design multi-channel promotion strategies that increase visibility, drive event attendance, and support fundraising goals.

Volunteer Experience Strategy : Refine existing and build new volunteer engagement strategies and experiences—for individuals, schools, faith-based organizations, and corporate partners that deepen involvement and guide participants toward deeper engagement and financial support.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent that includes 7–10 years of experience leading complex, large-scale fundraising and donor engagement events in nonprofit or mission-driven settings, with a proven track record of driving giving, building community, and embodying the organization’s mission and values.

Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to lead multiple high-profile initiatives simultaneously and deliver on time and within budget.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience with Salesforce and project management platform, Monday.com

Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and manage external vendors and partners

Experience designing and executing volunteer or community engagement programs that inspire long-term support and align with fundraising goals

Experience developing and managing event budgets with an ability to forecast and report on ROI for each event.

Comfort using data and post-event analytics to iterate on programming and demonstrate impact to leadership.

Demonstrated commitment to inclusive design and ADA-compliant logistics, ensuring events are welcoming to people of all abilities and backgrounds.

Deep commitment to equity and ethical storytelling practices—especially when engaging clients or individuals with lived experience

Competencies

Executive Disposition : Demonstrating a poised, credible, and confident demeanor that reassures others and commands respect, conveying an image that is consistent with the organization's vision and values.

Operational Execution and Accountability : Translates strategy into action, ensuring efficient and effective implementation. Establishes clear goals, tracks progress and holds teams accountable for results.

Championing the Vision : Cultivates commitment to fundamental strategic and cultural change throughout LifeMoves, even if the change is radical to align with the organization's evolving vision and strategic plan.

Financial Management : Manages budgets, expenses, and resources responsibly to meet financial targets.
