Maintenance Group Supervisor
This position is a permanent FM-3 in the Maintenance Unit at Holland Tunnel, in Jersey City, NJ. This position will report primarily on the B-Tour (6 a.m. 2 : 30 p.m.).
Responsibilities Under the direction of the General Maintenance Supervisor and / or Construction Coordinator, the successful candidate's responsibilities will include but are not limited to :
- Administer security applications, assign security privileges, and issue Holland Tunnel identification badges.
- Coordinate and prioritize daily and weekly construction activities, monitor progress of various projects, oversee Port Authority and outside agency contractors.
- Supervise various maintenance staff in the performance of capital or operating construction activity support.
- The candidate will be responsible to supervise and schedule Maintenance Staff structural integrity inspections and prepare the related conditions reports and findings.
- Plan, develop, and publish construction / maintenance schedules and roadway / tunnel lane closure schedules.
- Manage contractor vehicle placards, facility confined space permits and hot work permits.
- Coordinate facility escorts, specify equipment, material, and work methods to be used.
- Conduct and supervise inspections of facility conditions and equipment.
- The successful candidate will ensure the optimal utilization of personnel, materials, equipment and resources in achieving satisfactory maintenance standards.
- Perform all Maximo related scheduling and cost tracking for work within the supervised section, prioritize and plan work to optimize available resources.
- Cover any shift for any absent supervisor as needed and have the ability to work in adverse weather and other emergency conditions.
- Supervise snow removal operations and other emergency activities and work on a regular and overtime basis as a regular function of the job.
- Serve as the facility's liaison to service contractors and provide general coverage for other facility FMs as needed.
The candidate must be available to supervise other maintenance units consisting of various skilled and semi-skilled crafts.

Further details will be provided by Human Resources Department at the time of the offer.The successful candidate must be able to pass a fingerprint-based Criminal History Check as mandated by 49CFR 1542 and will be required to obtain and maintain an Airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) ID card with DR-2 Airfield Driving and escort privileges, if applicable.The selected candidate is required to participate in the Snow Removal Program and must be able to respond to other emergency activities on a 24 hour / 7 day a week basis, and must be available to work any shift necessary, including weekends and holidays and work overtime as a regular function of the job.Qualifications :
Must have three (3) years of full-time, paid maintenance work experience, with 1 year of paid full-time supervisory experience.Must possess a valid driver's license.High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution required.All applicants that meet the above qualifications and have been selected for an interview, must also be qualified on a Port Authority Entry-Level Assessment (ESA) test prior. This test assesses supervisory skills and will be administered virtually.Desired :
Thorough knowledge of maintenance equipment, procedures, and the work methods of various trades; understand safety practices and related national codes; and be able to read and plan work from drawings.Knowledge of the BTU, IUOE, UOAT, and IBEW union contracts, absence control policies, and knowledge of PA Administrative instructions and Port Authority Instructions.Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise a represented staff of skilled and semi-skilled employees to ensure that work orders are completed on time.Superior organizational skills and ability to work independently and prioritize assignments.Demonstrated experience computer skills and experience working with MS Office Programs.Demonstrated effective record keeping experience.Experience with the MAXIMO or another Maintenance Management Information System.Selected candidate must have previously worked in a field environment either in maintenance, construction, or engineering and familiar with common tools, construction vehicles, etc.Demonstrated knowledge of O&M standards and OSHA safety procedures.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with various levels of both PA staff and external contractors and agencies.Demonstrated experience in reading and interpreting contract documents, drawings and technical manuals.Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills.Demonstrate ability to identify, understand and integrate facility / customer service needs into day-to-day decision making and to interact knowledgeably with the facility staff, service contractors and other stakeholders.Selection Process :
