FT - PreOp Assessment Nurse - Ambulatory

The Inova Oakville Ambulatory Surgery Center is in the final stages of construction, located in the Potomac Yards area of Alexandria.

We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses to be responsible for the communication process with the patient prior to arrival at the surgery center.

WORK SCHEDULE :

• Monday-Friday
• Day shift only, no nights, weekends, call, or holidays
• 5X8 (0800-1430)

WHAT YOU'LL DO :

• Contact patients prior to surgery for initial assessment of patient needs
• Complete pre-op phone assessment to include but is not limited to :
• Verification of surgery date, time, expected arrival time, and procedure
• Health history of the Surgical Patient
• NPO instructions as per anesthesia pre-op orders
• Any individualized instructions pertinent to patient’s surgery or history
• Consult with Medical Director / Chief of Anesthesia on any special needs depending on health history
• Notify patient and surgeon / PCP of any pre-op lab or EKG needs
• Coordinate with surgeon’s office and patient’s PCP to obtain necessary lab results before admission
• Acquire current History and Physical from PCP / surgeon prior to admission
• Continuously monitor the schedule for any changes on a daily basis
• Communicate any patient special needs (blood sugar, disabilities, anxiety) to the Charge Nurse and / or PreOp / PACU Nurse Managers
• Provide the pre-op phone assessment sheets to the Reception / Admission Specialist for the next days' patient records
• Coordinate with Anesthesia and Pre-op / PACU Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse the pre-admission needs of patients
• Assist patients with any questions which may arise during the pre-admission period

EXPERIENCE YOU'LL NEED :

• Current licensure in Virginia as a Registered Nurse, previous experience in PreOp / PACU preferred
• Current BLS certification
• Familiarity with current outpatient surgical trends
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Good telephone techniques
• Basic Computer skills
• Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
