Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners is hiring : Substitute Library Assis

Overview

Substitute Library Assistant (part-time) at Richards Memorial Library, Paxton. This is a substitute position with no guaranteed hours. Must have availability for one or more of these shifts : Tuesdays 4-6pm, Wednesdays 3 : 30-5pm and / or Fridays 3 : 30-5pm. Occasional daytime, evening and Saturday hours to cover shifts for staff vacation / sick days.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Examples of duties include collecting materials from the outside book drop, organizing and shelving books according to shelving rules and procedures, assisting patrons with computers and printers, assisting library staff, processing and weed­ing books as needed, and other duties as assigned.

Physical, Motor, and Visual Skills

PHYSICAL, MOTOR, AND VISUAL SKILLS

Physical Skills. Physical demands are required to perform much of the work. The work involves periods of standing, with intermittent periods of reaching, stooping, and walking. May be required to lift or move objects such as book trucks, boxes of books, office supplies, and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.

Motor Skills. Manual dexterity is required for processing materials, laminating, cutting, pasting, crafting, and similar activities. Duties require motor skills for activities such as moving objects, using office equipment (telephones, personal computers, handheld technology, and other office equipment). Requires manual dexterity in combination with eye-hand coordination for efficient and accurate keyboard input, data entry and shelving.

Visual Skills. The employee must be able to view computer screens and numbers, read reports and print-outs for analytical purposes in a high-volume environment with high accuracy requirements for numeric and alpha processing. Visual demands require routinely reading documents for general understanding and analytical purposes.

Qualifications

Must be proficient with computers and have working knowledge of Windows, Chrome, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive, and basic search techniques. Recent library experience or customer service experience is preferred. Must possess the ability to organize materials in alphabetical and numerical order. Attention to detail.
