Job Description
Our client, a well-established general contracting and construction management firm based in the Greater New Haven area , is seeking a Senior Construction Estimator to join their team. This role partners closely with the Director of Pre-Construction to deliver accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates for large, multi-family residential and extensive construction projects.
What You’ll Do as the Senior Construction Estimator :
- Review project drawings, specifications and documentation to fully understand scope, quality and schedule expectations
- Support the pre-construction team by performing quantity take-offs, leading scope review meetings and assisting in issuing contracts and purchase orders
- Solicit bids from subcontractors and vendors, identify and qualify subcontractors, negotiate pricing and evaluate bids for value and risk
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, subcontractors and project teams to help optimize cost, quality and schedule
- Prepare and update construction budgets, analyze cost discrepancies and vendor / subcontractor proposals to recommend the most competitive options
- Visit project sites as needed (pre-bid or during bidding) to collect data and validate assumptions
Must Haves as the Senior Construction Estimator :
Minimum of 4-7 years of experience as a construction estimator (ideally with multi-family residential or large-scale GC experience)Demonstrated proficiency with estimating methods and solid understanding of cost drivers in constructionFamiliarity or experience with estimating software (such as Planswift or similar), and strong skills in Excel (and ideally Word / Project)Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and demonstrated organisational / time management capability in a fast-paced environmentAble to multitask, manage competing priorities and deliver results on tight timelinesWilling to work in-person at the Greater New Haven area office as requiredNice to Haves as the Senior Construction Estimator :
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related disciplinePrevious experience working for a commercial / general contracting firm or in a Construction Manager / GC environmentProficiency with programs such as Procore (or equivalent), and Microsoft ProjectPrevious experience estimating in the affordable housing or multi family sector (advantageous given client’s portfolio)Our Client Offers :
