Job description

Job Summary

Research within the lab focuses upon the differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells into various neural lineage cells for in vitro disease modeling. As such, candidates for this position will conduct a wide range of experiments in cellular reprogramming to generate new lines of induced pluripotent stem cells, as well as differentiation into neurons and astrocytes. This laboratory is under the direction of Principle Investigator, Jason Meyer, PhD.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Performs experimental techniques or procedures : Cell culture (human stem cell lines), including cellular reprogramming and astrocyte differentiationCell biology (i.e. flow cytometry and histology)Microscopy (i.e. confocal and multiphoton microscopy)Molecular biology (i.e. DNA and RNA, including cloning)Gene editing (CRISPR / Cas9)
  • Responsible for laboratory ordering
  • Responsible for equipment and laboratory maintenance
  • Performs regulatory procedures / protocols (i.e. IACUC, IRB, chemical safety, radiation safety, and controlled substances)
  • Serves as a resource to other laboratory personnel
  • Participates in the tabulation and computation of project results
  • Prepares project research reports / analyses

General Responsibilities

  • Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results
  • Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments
  • Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed
  • Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training
  • Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management
  • May train junior-level staff
  • May help plan experiments or short-term goals
  • Qualifications

    The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

    Additional Information

    This position is grant funded with expected annual renewals. Renewals are contingent on the availability of grant funds.

    36,516.80 per year to $41,516.80 per year based on experience and internal equity within the department
