Senior Energy Utilities Engineer

The State of California is seeking a Senior Energy Utilities Engineer to support the Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) Transmission & Interconnection section in the development of work products that advise and assist high-level decision-makers.

Job Description And Duties

Under general direction, the Senior Energy Utilities Engineer will lead projects related to integrated resource planning, resource procurement, transmission planning, and transmission and interconnection development issues.

Specific duties and responsibilities include :

• Leading investigation and research of technologies that enable the swift evolution of the electric grid to meet California’s energy goals.
• Analyzing data to determine if policy objectives have been met.
• Making recommendations based on independent analysis of regulatory, policy, and technical issues.
• Developing creative solutions to electric sector planning and procurement problems.
• Contributing to the inputs, methodology, and analysis of results of energy modeling.
• Developing tools and solutions for the CPUC’s policy-setting rulemakings.
• Managing a contract with consultants that provide technical support to the IRP process.
• Coordinating with analysts in other Energy Division sections and branches on policy, generation, and transmission-related issues.
• Representing the Division in various high-profile settings.
• Collaborating with other state organizations and agencies to achieve statewide clean energy goals.
• Organizing and facilitating workshops and / or stakeholder meetings.
• Reviewing and providing feedback on proposed legislative bills and responding to inquiries from the public and legislative staff.

Requirements

The position requires a Professional Engineer License. Applicants must submit a copy of their license prior to being hired.
