Description :
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver.
The RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame.
The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process.
The RN implements nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution.
Essential functions include performing all responsibilities and duties required by the unit.
The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided.
This documentation assures the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
The RN completes initial assessments upon patient admission.
The RN develops appropriate plans of care in accordance with unit standards.
These plans are based on patient and family needs.
The RN implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
The RN modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.
The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety.
The RN reports and / or corrects safety hazards and incidents.
The RN communicates with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues.
The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers.
The RN confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base.
The RN identifies their own learning needs and takes initiative to address appropriate solutions.
The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies.
Department specific functions include assessing IV sites every 4 hours.
The RN starts new IVs per policy.
The RN must maintain documentation standards as evidenced by passed quarterly chart audits.
The RN must attend 5 out of 6 staff meetings per year.
The RN identifies changes in patient status and responds appropriately.
